Description

About

I recently upgraded my P1P to P1S and wanted to design same LED riser I had before. I improved the design in several ways and added cool new features.

Features

Oh boy do we have a lot… I started with simple questions; what I do not like about LED risers there and what do I want want? Well I do not like clunky design, bulky design, free standing one, supports, added height.

And what I would like? I want accessories to be added to my printer but I am struggling to find mounting points.

Based on this I designed customizable LED riser.

  • Guides for proper 360° light
  • Integrated diffuser to diffuse light and hold LED strip in place in a case a glue fails
  • Slim design - adds just not even 11mm.
  • Customizable mounting - 12x M3 threads to mount whatever you want
  • I designed Gridfinity integrated plate
  • Easy printing
  • No supports
  • Easy assembly
  • LED light integration into the printer
  • microSD still accessible
  • Bolted to the frame, no rattle

Whom it is for?

Anyone with P1S or anyone who converted P1P to P1S or even X1C users and possibly P1P users.

By default I have 2 version fro P1S and P1P converted to P1S. The difference is foam which is on P1S hence I had to adjust design for it.

I did not test the P1P version but there is possibility to mount to the same holes so it will work but fit might not be the best. X1C has foam around the top so it cannot be bolted to the frame unless you plan to strip it. Riser most likely can be placed without mounting.

I would appreciate feedback from P1P and X1C users to adjust models to their needs.

Before and after?

see for yourself; the difference compared to the original light is huge.

Unlike other LED risers, this one has light that replaces the original one so it can be like the original, no need to manually turn it on and off.

What will you need?

  • PETG (you can go for ABS, ASA, PA, your call even PLA might work…) - 250g
  • 6x M2x10mm bolts (I used DIN 912)
  • 6x M2 washers
  • 12x M3 inserts (could use less, but I populated it all while I was doing that anyhow)
  • 4x M3x5 (for mounting the custom plate, however based on your design you might need different ones)
  • LED strip (optional but recommended; you might need to solder) - link
  • Foam strip (optional but recommended) - 15x1mm link
  • Glue - I used 2 part epoxy

Printing

As usual I like to make easy to print designs without supports, but due to constrains I was not able to come up with design without supports so I decided to split the part and glue it after. For this reason I also modeled locating pins and keys to help with assembly.

Everything is designed to work with 0.2 layer height. I presliced everything, please really use my profiles since I tested several version and fixed issues; mainly with the diffuser which has only 1 layer.

I printed everything from black PETG. The only exception is the diffuser. I had transparent PETG, but you I believe white one would be best.

Print is therefore easy and you should follow these rules:

  • Use smooth PEI / High Temp plate - or anything to get nice smooth surface, I did not try with textured
  • Clean your bed before print, I had 0 warping issues with PETG
  • Let the print cool down so you do not damage parts or the plate
  • Properly tune you material, no over-extrusion or pressure advance. Tolerances are quite tight for nice fit.
