Hello world 👋
What is this and why do you need it?
I printed the spool transfer/switcher/winder jig by the wonderful Miklos Kiszely (thanks for this awesome design btw) over on Printables and I got stuck finding a suitable adapter for my spools (tiny or very large inner diameter), so I designed a universal one that should fit all the usual filament rolls (even some exotic ones).
This adapter goes from an inner diameter of 20mm to about 70mm inner diameter (bambu spools have an inner diameter of about 55mm, for reference).
Why not a smooth cone?
I decided to not go with a smooth cone shape but with steps and a bit of a champfer between them because I feared that the filament rolls might slip too easily otherwise. If anyone wants to try, tell me and I might rethink my descision.
If anybody does, I might link the design here
Fit and finish
The adapter fits perfectly onto the original shafts.
I decided to print with pretty fine setting, the chamfers turned out fine with a layer height of 0.12mm (auso used in print profile)
Gluing
they can be glued onto the shafts with a bit of cyanoacrylate.
If you do, here are a few tips:
Consider only gluing only one side to allow for spacers to be added later on for the really slim rolls.
Use CA-glue, screw both pieces together to press the disks onto the shafts and wait for about two minutes.
Print them, sell them or remix them, but please give some attribution if you do, that would be much appreciated.
Happy printing!
