Description

Inspired by a barrel-shaped piggy bank from many years ago, I drew this model to use the barrel as a pen holder.

The assembly requires neither glue nor screws or nails, it is all to be assembled by interlocking. I recommend starting by placing the bottom, the lid, two slats facing each other and one of the large hoops to hold everything in place. Then all the other staves must be inserted one by one, finally blocking the entire barrel by inserting the other circles.

Printed one at 100%, and this one at 65% using Atomic Bronze for the bands and PolyTerra Dual-Gradient Wood for the barrel. Yes, the bands are tight, push them down as far as you can, then gently hit a section with a heat gun on *low* for a couple seconds. Just warm it a little, just enough to push it down into the groove. The rest will push down easier. Historic note, this is similar to how real barrels were done, the metal bands were heated in a fire to make them expand, then hammered down onto the barrel where they cooled and shrunk tight. For getting the staves to hold in place while assembling? Lay them down side-by-side across a length of electrical tape, then use that to curl them around the top and bottom. As soon as they come around, slip one of the larger diameter rings over the staves.

Love the way it looks but difficult to assemble. Left the outer two rings off.

The first time I assembled it, I too wanted to throw everything out the window... then with patience (and helping myself to hold the staves in place with an elastic band after placing them on the bottom) I found the right way! Anyway, if you have some ring that are too tight, enlarge them to 101% in Bambu Studio, it should work (probably your filament flow is a little high)

Replying to @Officina23 :
Thanks. I did just that - scaled the smaller rings at 102%. Probably 101% is perfect.

The two larger rings are difficult to snap on, had to end up cutting and glueing them.

Hi, sometimes the rings are difficult to insert (especially when the flow is a little too abundant). You can easily solve by enlarging them to 101 or 102% directly in Bambu Studio
