The Giraffe Bookshelf is more than just a cute decorative piece. It is an innovative hybrid project that combines 3D printing with Cricut (or similar cutting plotter) technology to create a truly unique bookshelf. Its integrated Shadow Box transforms the piece into a warm and immersive display when illuminated with a simple LED light, bringing depth and atmosphere to your space after dark.


 

The heart of this design hides a meaningful quote between the layers of the Shadow Box:

"Reading books puts you ahead of others."

These inspiring words came from the imagination of a 10-year-old child and became the inspiration behind this project. I hope this bookshelf holds not only your books, but also your dreams.

⚠️ Important Note

The layered artwork used inside the Shadow Box is based on a commercial design created by another designer, therefore the original SVG/DXF cutting files are not included with this project.

Instead, this project includes:

• A ready-to-print panel that can be produced entirely with your 3D printer.
• Customizable cover files so you can create your own unique design.

This allows you to enjoy the bookshelf using only a 3D printer or personalize it by designing your own insert.

🛠️ Print Settings

3D Printed Parts

• Layer Height: 0.20 mm
• Infill: 15–20% (Gyroid or Grid recommended)
• Walls: 3

Shadow Box Layers

Instead of paper, you can create durable plastic layers that diffuse light beautifully.

Simply:

1. Print a flat 0.20 mm single-layer PLA sheet directly on your print bed.
2. Carefully remove the flexible sheet.
3. Place it onto your Cricut (or compatible cutting machine).
4. Cut your SVG/DXF design.

This method produces durable translucent plastic layers that look fantastic when illuminated.

📦 Required Materials

• 3D Printer (optimized for Bambu Lab printers)
• Cricut or similar cutting plotter (optional)
• Bambu Lab LED or standard LED Strip
• CA Glue (Super Glue)

🔧 Assembly

The model has been divided into sections that fit standard 256 × 256 mm print beds.

Once all parts are printed, simply assemble the joints and secure them with a small amount of CA glue.
