Description

I really liked BATTCAVES's spool clip/plugs, but realized I didn't have anywhere to keep 'em. Decided I should make something cute and functional to store them, but it turns out no one has made a little jar shaped like a spool yet, so… here we are 😅

So I made a 30% scale Polymaker spool as a two-part container.

The outer edge is 60mm, usable inner space is ∅50mm and 18.5mm tall. Uses the tried-and-true triple-start threads that give an easy threading experience and a light click at the end that helps hold ‘em together. Holds up to 20 filament clips each, depending on which clip you’re using. Of course you could put whatever you want inside of it, I suppose!

Note: it will not spill no matter which way you take it apart, but if the filament side is on top then nothing will shift around inside since the inner part is attached to the bottom. I encourage using the filament side as the top if you customize your own by adding text or artwork.

Some options available:

  1. “Monocolor” is just that - straight brown with no features. Quick and easy.
  2. “One Change at Height” has a filament change after the board to whatever color you'd like for the filament. In my examples I used red. Change this to a pause if you'd like to make this print without an AMS.
  3. “Fancy Version” adds some faux holes and the text “SPOOL PLUGS” for identification. Filament is mapped to teal.
  4. “Fancy Version (no text)” is exactly what it sounds like, just the spool with the faux holes. Filament is mapped to green.

PS: if you're looking for the rack in my pictures, I took antiphrasis' Sturdy Spool Rack and scaled it to 31% then tweaked a few settings in Arachne (minimum wall width 80%, minimum feature size 20%) and it works great for these 🤣

EDIT: published the rack profile here.
