Description

This is a case intended to house a D1 Mini or D1 Mini Pro microcontroller, for running WLED to control individually addressable LED strips.

It is designed to house the D1 on a custom PCB, which also includes a voltage regulator and level converter to shift the LED control signal to 5V. A hole is included for a 5.5/2.5mm barrel socket for power, and a slot and strain relief for a 3 core cable with a JST connector on it (which are not panel mountable unfortunately).

Components required:

Assembly should be straight forward; two points of note:

  • You will need to adjust the regulator to supply 5V. This requires cutting the track at the end of the voltage selector pads to disable the variable output pot, and adding a blob of solder to join the 5V pads together. See the photo on Paul's Amazon review for the regulator if you're not sure.
  • Power should be supplied directly from the barrel socket to the JST connector, as well as to the PCB.

If you want to modify the case, you can do so in Onshape. Note that the latest version of the case includes some extra embossed text on the lid. There is an earlier saved version that can be rolled back to the pre-text version, or you can just delete it in a copy.
