Description

This is a pistol grip and trigger mechanism for a Spectracide wasp spray can. My son-in-law was looking for an easy way to use wasp spray. I searched the internet for a suitable 3d model that I could print and couldn't find anything. There are lots of pistol grips for paint cans but not anything for larger cans. So, I designed and printed this device.

The device is designed to clamp specifically to the size and shape of the Spectracide can. I'm not sure how widely available the can is. But in any case the basic idea should be good for any can. Or, at least, any can with a rim. Note that the trigger arm has a stiffener strut -- without which it would be too flexible. The slot that the trigger fits through doubles as guides to keep the trigger arm on the pivot, saving one screw or cotter pin. Gravity keeps the trigger arm against the can's valve, which means that no springs are necessary. The pivot screws are out of the way of the trigger arm for ease of assembly. The smooth radius on the inside top of the clamp keeps the clamp from cracking.

There is a picatinny rail on top of the pivot piece to mount a laser sight. I have not tested it. Vertical sighting might be a problem, because the wasp spray pattern has a pretty large vertical dropoff at distance. Horizontally sighting should be easy. A single layer of electrical tape around the can will keep the aim point from moving horizontally and vertically.

Assembly of the parts is pretty easy. I used 4 self-tapping screws (see picture) and one 8-32 screw with wing nut (see picture). Once everything is screwed and clamped, the device should feel very rigid.
