The company I work for are installing automation equipment requiring lots of soldered encoder end terminations onsite at a customer that does not have sufficient overhead lighting or work bench areas. So I designed this portable solder station with magnification ring light and helping hands so our technicians can magnetize the unit directly to the backside of an industrial cabinet door. That way they can sit right on a mechanics stool and terminate the encoder cables right in the panel while performing the other wiring.
Update: I changed the design slightly from the original release. I added a 3rd magnet disk at the center and lower down to make it more stable when attached to a cabinet (See renders from Onshape). The original design worked well, but was more sensitive to be hinged off the magnets if someone pulled on the soldering iron power cable. The new design with 3 magnets works better and is far more stable.
It uses a M18 battery as the power source.
If you want to replicate the design you will need some of the following parts. I ordered what I could get quickly, there may be better options of parts long term, but these are working for now:
I designed the part in Onshape: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/bd800501ce3dfde76745553a/w/6dac38da7d99b0ce5bcd498e/e/3e6e496ca4b7f615349098fd?renderMode=0&uiState=65ec76b6f796063448f03915
I have also included a Step file if you want to modify it to suit your needs.
