Description

I made up a quick adapter to mount a piece of 6"x6" solar film purchased off of Amazon (https://a.co/d/3XzaxDc) on the end of a Sony 200-600mm lens hood. Both pieces are printed using PLA Plus with the top piece in white to keep the assembly cooler. The film can be secured using tape and the two pieces can be screwed together either using a long M3 screw with a nut on the back or installing threaded M3 inserts.

Printed this in sun PLA+ and printed well. The fitting on the lens hood is perfect. The holes for heating up the threaded inserts are a bit small so I ended up making a mess of it, and the inserts filled with plastic. I would advise make the holes slight bigger, like a cone shape from behind so they don’t fill with plastic as they’re melting in. Because I ruined mine, I’m just going to glue the 2 sides together. Less plastic can be used by designing the squares / borders closer to the lens hole opening, but of coursing keeping it square to enable filter mounting points with tape.

I just used m3 screws with no inserts, fit like a glove.
