I had issues mounting the spool on top of my Ender 5 after converting to direct drive. The filament would easily tangle on the spool with movement of the print head.
So, I made a holder for a reverse bowden solution. It sits where the extruder + motor used to go before converting to DD, and the spool goes where it was originally. It works really well.
All you need is 2pcs PC4-M10 bowden couplers and the original bowden tube - and just a short poece of tube to go on the spool side. I use my high quality all metal couplers because I have quite a lot of them.
Edit: Added E5_DD_Reversebowden.stl which is the same only smaller and only uses 2 screws.
