Description

I recently got a Balanced DAC, so I decided to make my own balanced XLR cable since purchasing them was so expensive. These can be made relatively inexpensive. The only thing I was missing is the part of the cable where it splits off into the left and the right channel cables, so I designed this part to fill that role.

It is designed to be printed in TPU, but I don't see why it could be in a hard material and still work. Solder the left/right channel wires on the split part, and slide them through the bottom into the left/right holes (see photo). A standard Canare Star Quad L-4E6S cable fits slides and fits snug into the hole. You may need to give some force twisting left and right to go in (which is what you want).

The cable in the photos has a 3.5mm female connector on the end to act as a universal balanced cable for multiple headphones. You can just put your headphone connector on the end here instead if you wish directly.

Parts required:

  • 4 Pin Male XLR Connector
  • Canare L-4E6S Star Quad Mic Cable (I used 5 feet, but you choose this length)
  • 2 x Connector at the end for your head phones
  • 20AWG Nylon Wire (Any wire works, but I think this is the perfect thickness for strength (could probably go as thick as 18AWG)
