Description

The A1 had a recall due to a faulty print bed cable in early 2024. You should not be using your printer, but many are. While this may not be a 100% guarantee to stop a fire, it certainly will give you a much better chance if one does start. I am unable to stop use of my A1 as it is needed for business. I only run it when I am in the room (most of the day).

The FireStop is a device designed to put out oven fires in residential locations. It utilizes Potassium Bicarbonate (also known as Purple-k), the same stuff used in some type B, C and K fire extinguishers. It is non conductive so will not cause electrocution from electric fires. The FireStop is set off by fire reaching a tiny fuse in the center, bottom surface of the “can”. This is the best cost effective option I found to help automatically stop a fire if one starts. You should print this in the most heat resistant material you have. I used PETG which hopefully will hold up long enough for the fust to light if I ever have a fire. I made the model pretty thick to help hold up to heat

I made this mount to attach directly to the spool holder for the A1. If you use the spool holder, I suggest you download a 2nd “peg” so you can use both the FireStop and the spool. If you have an AMS Lite, you likely just tossed the spool holder aside.

The model does use a few small supports, I think I have it set to 20 degrees, slim supports. I print it with 9 walls to make it extra strong. The model will need 2mm or 3mm screws. I used 2mm and the heads, washers and nuts all fit within the recessed area. For the smaller holes you wll need two 2M x 6 screws, 4 washers, 2 nuts. For the single large hole you will need a 2M x 38 or 40mm, 2 washers and, 2 nuts. If you don't want to use screws, you can likely put the firestop in and glue it together mounted on the spool holder and held together with a clamp of some sort. I am working on a zip tie version also.
