Description

I had a variable number of wire spools which I wanted to easily “store” long term and take out so I could work with. So I came up with this “system” which can easily be chucked in a storage bin and taken out and put on a desk.

It consists out of three components:

  • Base: print only once
  • Holder: you can print this zero or more times
    • Holder: the actual case
    • Center pin: the “pin” that the wire spool rest on and screws into the base or holder.
  • Lid: print only once
    • Lid: the actual lid
    • Screw: a screw that fastens the lid to a center pin.

You can change the parameters to match your stack of spools and print how ever many holders + base + lid. The models are FDM optimized so make sure you always have the big flat parts on the build plate.

This is a fantastic model, but I’ve noticed that when I set the parameter ‘spool_height‘ to be greater than 21, it leads to an UNDEFINED ERROR in the step of calculation of the wire-outlet, causing the model to behave abnormally. Is there any solution to this issue?

Additionally, I discovered that the final generated model is missing the ’holder-center-pin‘. By the way, this has got to be the best wire storage box model I’ve ever printed. I’ve made a ton of them at the default size, and they’re super convenient to use!
