Summary

This design is based on a wooden yarn bowl my SO found in a store for >$45. I took some artistic liberty when copying the design.
To aid in fulfilling its purpose I made the bottom large and flat while the inside is as smooth as possible to allow for the yarn to roll around easily.

I recommend getting a rubber pad or some other kind of anti-slip material to stick to the bottom.

I printed this in Colorfabb Woodfill and finished with some light sanding (more on the inside to let the yarn roll smoothly) and a transparent mahogany varnish.

Notes:

I printed this in Colorfabb Woodfill and am in the process of sanding, staining and coating it.

If your printer can handle overhangs of 50 degrees it will require minimal supports, only on the details. As you can see in the picture supports printed in woodfill are

easy to remove without damaging the print.

I highly recommend using a woodfill type filament for this.

I printed this guy at 120% on my FLSun Super Racer which was a mistake 😅 My P1S was busy. Obvo I ran out of my pink partway through. I will reprint 😍 Such a handy bowl!! The original size at the craft store was always too small for me and my Caron Cakes 😉 Thanks for the model!!

I made another yarn bowl today, this guy is enormous!! 133.15% of normal size! This was as large as I could make him on my P1S. I just love him. Thanks for posting this model again. Cheers!

Not sure what I did wrong but mine doesn’t look nearly as beautiful as everyone else’s. Hopefully some sanding and a polish will help hide the seam that wound up in front. I love it though!

I stretched the model to 8.5” long. I wanted it to fit a large skein of yarn and it worked out great! Yes! Thank you for the pattern! My favorite yarn bowl!!! FYI… I still need to clean it up a bit

Great Print! I increased the size to a bit over 7” diameter…. (184.127%) I left everything else the same. Supports came off well and all the edges are nice and smooth. There is a visible difference 1.5” from base but still looks very nice. Thank you for this pattern file. : )

thank you for sharing! my kid love it 👍🏻😉 printed good, had a bit struggle to get off the supports, but at the end everything gets off without any damage. great design!
