Description

I rarely use my AMS with the lid fully closed and with me running a PLA print farm i rarely have a roll on the AMS for more then 2-3 days anyways.

I needed a different solution to the extra height i needed to account for on the AMS lid, plus always needing access to the bottom to change PFTE tubes or clear jams was super annoying so i designed this Open AMS concept.

I tried to make it as easy to print and light weight as possible for everyone's material usage and piece of mind.

There will be supports required, Organic tree work the best and you'll need glue and possibly HD tape to help add strength to the printed joints.

PETG or ABS would be recommended but nothing wrong with PLA either

Its still in a semi BETA phase but my print tests have all worked out pretty good, there might just be a few minor tweaks to get it closer to perfect in the future (currently moving and relocating so it might be a week or two)

The fit it a little tight and will need a little fineness to get it placed but overall its going to hug it tight and secure

Print settings:

  • 0.2mm layers
  • 4 or 5 Top/Bottom Layers
  • 5-10% gyroid infill
  • Organic Tree Supports

Finishing:

  • x2 3mm heat inserts
  • crazy glue or equivalent
  • HD tape
  • double sided tape (for the AMS power) (original M2's can be reused as well)

Revisions: (parts are compatible for each version unless otherwise stated)

  • v2 - March 13 - 2024
    • updated the outside 1st stage hole locations to access all 4
    • added a front lip on the inside to better support the main AMS parts

funny story behind this. I've been running my setup like this for like 5 weeks now. easier to remove clogs and whatnot. And then here you are with your design. lol

Replying to @k2thestank :
it really is so much better. I run all ASA and ABS and have never had issues. I run a heated enclosure and a dehumidifier in my room so my filament is dry. no need for AMS.

Cool stuff bro! I’ve been running mine naked for a while - too lazy to print a base, lol. But after printing your base it looks more decent. Thanks!
