Description

Updated 06/11/2024 Uploaded a new profile with reduced speeds and expanded to allow printing from the app for the A1 mini. Thank you all for your continued feedback!

Hello MakerWorld Community & A1 owners!

I created this design because I've heard many stories of spools falling off the AMS lite. Personally, it has not happened to me, but I do not have mine mounted to the frame of my A1. Currently (02/21/2024), I can confirm this part fits perfectly with my BBL spools on my AMS lite. I am already working on the design variation for non-BBL spools, and I hope to release this to the community in the next few days! Thank you for supporting me by leaving a comment or review with a picture of your lock in action! Feel free to contact me via the comments if you have any questions, special requests, issues, printer troubleshooting, etc.

Design Parameters:

  • SECURE!
  • Support-Free
  • Flush Fitting
  • Simple (does not require assembly or post-processing)
  • Easy (quickly install and remove)
  • Customizable (yes!)

Printing Guidelines:

I included three plates in my printing profile. The first plate is 4 locks arranged in the center and printed by layer. The second plate is 4 locks arranged for clearance and printed by object. The third plate is a single lock. Feel free to optimize settings for your filament! As this is the early stages, I've only used PLA, but PETg is probably the final material of choice. I will explore further the ability to customize the design on the bottom face of the lock, but I really look forward to seeing how you all choose to add labels and graphics!

Future Developements:

Under the umbrella of this project, I will be continuing to refine the model and print profiles based on everyone's feedback. Also, I am currently designing the lock that will fit with non-babmulab spools. There are variations in the spool width among manufacturers, so the design will hopefully address this in an adaptable way.

Considerations:

Please follow the copyright guidelines. I developed this model entirely using my tools, time, and experience. I ask that you all respect the content I bring to the community by not redistributing or republishing my work or likenesses of my designs. Doing this will help ensure I receive the proper feedback and credit to improve this model and all future work so that this community can benefit. That being said, I have no problem with anyone adding customizations to the model for their own personal use. If you are a content creator, I ask that you please credit my work IF MY WORK IS VISIBLE ON YOUR CONTENT. Thank You All!

thanks for the picture and the 4-star rating. the silver looks nice!! Is there anything that can be improved for the print profile that made you choose 4 instead of 5?

I had to reduce the speed because the first print failed. And unfortunately it doesn't fit many filaments of other brands, but the bamboo filament super.

yes, as per the title and description. version 1 is for Bambu lab spools. still making tweaks on the universal fitting one. was there any issue or problem with the print profile that lost a star? appreciate any feedback!

Last time one of may spool fell of the ams mount but luckily nothing else happened so I was looking for a lock and i found your upload. Thank you for your upload! Very nice locks! I´ve added the ams slot numbers on to your locks. Sometimes they are hard to take off especially if the spool is full. May you could add something for an easier remove?

oh those look great! and I’m so happy to seen them used on a mounted ams lite. thank you! it’s been taking me some extra time (my sister is getting married soon) but look out version 2 hopefully it will address that issue for you and be functional for other filament brands! again, I really appreciate the feedback and picture! and I’m happy to see some customization.

My remix/mod works great for my non-bambu spools. The original model's walls are too thick to get under the "fingers" of the AMS Lite hub. My remix accommodates more spool types tapering the part that goes under the "fingers" of the AMS Lite hub to put outward pressure on them against the inside of the spool. I tried to share this remix but the author chose a license that does not allow it. "That being said, I have no problem with anyone adding customizations to the model for their own personal use." But the selected license doesn't allow remixing. Allowing remixes benefits the community by retaining original credit for the author, not depending exclusively on the author for mods/changes/updates/options, and giving the community options that they don't have to create themselves.

good with the bbl spools. with esun cardboard spools the fit is too tight, the three surfaces are not able to go under the ams prongs, if it was just a little bit thiner I think it would work.

just printed these on my a1 from my newly arrived bambu pla spools with the provided settings. they fit nice and i am very happy for the design as a spool (although it was an amazon basic) fell off my ams during printng and hit the printer - fortunately nothing was damaged. the only criticism/suggestion i have ist that the locks would be much easier to turn to locking position if there was a small chamfer at the edge that slides underneath . but thanks for your work and sharing it!

thank you for the rating and your feedback! I’ll send you message when I am done with V2 for your non bambulab spools. I’m glad to hear your printer wasn’t damaged, and I hope the lock works well for you with the BBL spools! I’ll play around with the chamfer like you mentioned thanks again!
