MakerLab Light Box – Complete Body
The project features a laser-engraved wooden front part, combined with the 3D printed structure.
To make the wooden panel, you need the Bambu Lab H2S/H2D laser module or an external laser cutting machine, as in my case.
The 3D printed part consists of three plates:
- Plate 1: base and side frame, designed to fit into the main body but with minimal thickness, so it can be glued (even with simple white glue) to the wooden disc.
- Plate 2: main body or casing, where the LED lights are installed.
- Plate 3: front diffuser disc, to be printed in white or PETG translucent for uniform light diffusion.
You can use any LED strip, even an inexpensive one. I chose a one-euro one, USB-powered and found in an Asian store, but I still indicate a Bambu Lab model as an alternative in the references.
The rear hole is intentionally narrow for aesthetics, but this way it will almost always be necessary to cut and re-solder the LED cable. Alternatively, you can create a wider hole with a negative cylindrical modifier in the slicer.
Note: if you want to improve light diffusion, you can insert an additional white panel (or a second diffuser disc). In my case, as seen in the photos, I simply shaped white cardboard, which helps to better distribute the reflected light inside the structure.
