Description

My mother has had several surgeries on her wrist over the years and has lost much of her hand dexterity. She loves traveling and asked me for a pillcase a while ago. So I set out to make something with four specific goals in mind.

  1. Easy to open for anyone (preferably a way to dump one slot of pills quickly)
  2. Sturdy and secure to survive being thrown around during travel
  3. Relatively compact for an upcoming trip packing constraints
  4. Fit large pills and vitamins that are too big for most compact models

This pillcase feels safe throwing in a bag and is still easy to open! Win-win!

Features

  • Easy print-in-place design, no supports needed
  • Optimized for 0.20mm layer height for fast, clean prints
  • All chamfered/filleted edges are ≤45° means no difficult overhangs and no brim required
  • Magnetic closure for extra security when traveling (four 6.0mm x 2.0mm)

  • Multiple lid/body styles in single or double size + cutout versions of each style for non-AMS prints
  • Seven deep slots will store many large pills (~ 34mm x 18mm x 20mm)
  • Each slot has one 20° angled side to make it easier to slide pills out

Print Suggestions

If you are not using the provided print profiles, I suggest the following changes:

  • Sparse infill = 15%, Gyroid
  • Initial layer height = .42
  • Only one wall on first layer = Yes
  • Initial layer infill speed = 50mm/s
  • Top/bottom shell layers = 4

Design Notes

Magnet holes were designed to fit four 6.0mm (D) x 2.0mm (H) N52 magnets with clearance. I was able to press them in and they stayed secured without glue.

Pill slot sizes are consistent for each slot per initial sketches—used the same sketch measurements for the double bins as well.

All chamfered/filleted edges are ≤45° and won't cause any difficult overhangs or require the use of a brim when sliced at 0.20mm layer height.

Happy printing!

Those colors look great! Did you add the abbreviations for the days of the week? I think that's in Russian, correct? Looks good!

Sincerely apologize for the mixup! I studied Russian in high school so I wasn't sure. Thank you for correcting me!

great model, I printed the double version at 150% (I take a lot of pills) and it worked great, I had some larger magnets that fit well. I hand painted in the sun and moon icons, looks better that way.

That looks awesome! Thanks so much for the photo and comments. I could try to add a larger version--what size were the magnets you used?

actually the 150% was a little large for the drawer I am putting it in in the bathroom, so I printed at 140% and that was a perfect fit for an 8mm x 2.3mm magnet in the holes.

What are the chances of a plate with no dividers just open I'd like one for a fly box for fishing. like the design. the top fits snug. great job.

Let me see what I can do! Should be simple enough and I can remove the logos.

Super easy—check out the latest print profile all the way at the bottom of the list. Labeled as "Open Pillcase, No dividers" let me know how that works!

Great design! I printed the original version rather than the thicker walled one, and it came out perfect. I printed in PLA, and honestly, I think the wall thickness is just fine, and the magnet holes are perfect. No need for glue. Thank you for making this available.

I really admire the design; it's sleek and functions smoothly. However, I've noticed an issue with the lid being too fragile. I've printed it three times now, and each time it breaks from the same spot. It appears that the wall is too thin. I've got the fourth and fifth prints in progress. If they end up breaking too, I might have to reinforce the wall by adding an extra millimeter to both sides.
