Description

I really loved the Snowflake box design and decided to design a knob collection for it.

This is the Blank Knob Base

It was done with tinkercad with the principle of being able to create and customize the knobs easily. It started as a cylinder that i created an insert on top and a smaller insert on the underside for the connector.

This is the final result of that.

The way to create an insert for the Knob base is pretty simple. You can create your own or take a design you like and resize it to 44mm x 44mm's. Depending on the design your using you might have to go slightly smaller than that for it to fit inside the knob base circle.

Whatever design you choose to create or fit into the knob base is up to you. I usually like to overlap it in bambu just to see if it fits within reason to the knob base.

After the base and whatever insert you want is printed its as simple as super gluing the insert onto the base indentation.

Another interesting thing i came across is you can use these bases and tell bambu to print into infill and print into model. This will give it a randomized color scheme and also works to decrease your purge tower size.

The picture included was for that very test.

The connector is included as well and is on a seperate plate for quick printing. You will need to super glue it onto the underside of the knob Top.

I decided on doing it this way because having the connector directly fastened to the knob created a ton of excess support material that seemed wasteful.

The connector needs to be super glued to the underside of the knob (the side of the connector that is facing the build plate.) The textured surface from the build plate will act as a glue interface for the knob underside. The Circle indent where the connector is to be glue is bigger than the connector intentionally in case you want to pool a little bit of super glue around the rim of the connector for added strength.

The knob top can be printed with or without supports, both ways work. Without supports will leave a line like texture on the underside where the indent is for the connector but doesn't interfere with gluing the connector to it.

Once the two pieces are glued together it can be glued to the top connection gear on the snowflake gift box cover and will function just like the original design's turn mechanism.

I will have other knobs coming out shortly as i'm just doing a test print of them to make sure they're viable.
