Mini DVD Motor 3D Printer 2.0! Featuring dual Z and Y motors, and a heated bed.
Features:
Dual motors on Z and Y for improved reliability
linear bearings on all axis
Integrated extruder and spool holder
Duet3D board and LCD.
Parts required
5x CD Drive stepper motors. This gets tricky because some of them have different hole spacing. I have noticed LG or LITE-ON drives seem to have the correct ones.
12x - LM3UU Linear Bearings
1x - Nema17 (I used generic BMG extruder)
Lots of 3M screws for assembly, some button head, some countersunk
6x 3mm rods, recycled from CD drive
3x microswitch for endstops
Controller board of choice. I am using Duet 2 WiFi
Ender 3 Hotend
1x 40mm fan for rear cooling
1x 30mm fan for hotend
2x 4010 blower fan for part cooling
5mm LED strip for interior lighting channels
50x50mm acrylic for print bed. Suggested PEI on top.
Machine oil (sewing machine oil works) for rods and leadscrews.
Panel mount barrel jack for power
Optional, USB C 12v PD board.
Mini Heatbed PCB
The files for the heated bed PCB are attached, all credit to @icesythe7 for designing this. You can order the PCB from PCBway or similar.
Attach heatbed PCB to bed mount and use pen springs to level, I also cut a small magnetic sticker and spring steel PEI to fit
I printed the frame in PETG, all moving parts are ASA but PETG would be fine as well. the motors get very hot so PLA will deform.
Assembly is fairly straightforward as shown in photos and fusion model. Take extra care to ensure your bearings are straight and parallel when pressed into the carriage or you will run into issues with loosing steps (motors are not very strong). I suggest assembling the two halves independently, and then putting them together at the very end.
