Description

Double Ball Bearing Servo & Steering Linkage for OpenRC F1 car.

Supports are required, print this part with regular supports, not tree supports.

In the instance of you hitting a wall with your tire, this steering linkage wont save your servo!

This part was designed from the ground up to work with original BOM pieces as well as remixed BOM pieces specifically designed for the ball bearing axels and this servo steering linkage. For best results its advised to use all 4 components. A profile with full parts plate is available to download from all of the linked parts:

  1. Double ball bearing servo & steering linkage x1
  2. Front upper ball bearing BOM x1
  3. Front bottom ball bearing BOM x1
  4. Front double ball bearing axle x2

Full assembly provides significant reduction in friction, much smoother, responsive, lock to lock steering in both directions even when using the cheapest of the servos out there like the MG90S.

There are two ways to use this part:

If using with redesigned BOM (Tested using MG90S & INJS2065):

  1. Assemble the suspension first. Using the double ball bearing axels and front/bottom BOMs.
  2. Secure the top front BOM to the BOM Block, do not secure the bottom BOM to the frame just yet.
  3. Insert the servo & steering linkage in the slot
  4. Secure the bottom BOM and the BOM block to the frame
  5. Connect steering rods to the axels.
  6. Connect steering rods to the servo & steering linkage. I recommend to leave slight gaps between the rods and the servo, do not tighten them hard.

If using with original BOM (I have not tested this):

  1. You will only need the ball bearing guards x2 & the double ball bearing servo & steering linkage (this part).
  2. Assemble the suspension, but do not screw the two bolts on the top of the front BOM block, it needs to be loose enough for step 4.
  3. Screw the guards on the top and bottom BOM pieces, use short screws just long enough to secure the ball bearing guards to the BOM assembly.
  4. Place ball bearings on the double ball bearing servo & steering linkage and carefully insert it into the ball bearing guards.
  5. Secure the two bolts on the top of the front BOM block.
  6. Connect steering rods to the servo & steering linkage. I recommend to leave slight gaps between the rods and the servo, do not tighten them hard.

Other Recommendations:

  1. I recommend to use this servo link to connect your servo to the servo & steering linkage. Do not tighten the parts together on neither ends to illuminate unnecessary friction.
  2. You can use any 8x12x3.5 mm ball bearings but here is an affiliate link to some.
  3. Here are two affiliate links for the servos that I tested this with:
    1. Premium 7KG servo
    2. Cheaper alternative
