Description

Recently I got into some soldering and I was in need of solder fume extractor. I searched online but nothing really fit my needs or it was too impractical.

What I wanted?

  • Sturdy design
  • Position it on a table at any position I want
  • Possibility to mount it
  • Fits 120x25mm fan
  • USB-C powered,
  • No moving parts except the fan of course
  • Easy printing, no supports
  • Fits common activated carbon filters

At the end I believe I came up with a design that satisfies all the criteria.

What will you need?

  • 230g of material (PLA is sufficient)
    • Fume base
    • Fume lid
    • 2x Fume wall
  • 2x M3 heated inserts
  • 2x M3x6 mm with countersunk head
  • 1x 12V USB-V trigger board - AliExpress
  • 1x switch - AliExpress
  • 1x 120x25mm fan
  • Activated carbon filter - I used the ones used for kitchen hood (1.2mm thickness, model can handle up to 2 layers)

I am attaching STEP files so if someone uses different components, they can edit the files to suit their needs.

Printing

I had only slight issue with bed adhesion so I would recommended to put mouse ears at the end of thin parts, apart from that 3 walls are sufficient, you can increase to 4 around where the insert will go. 8% gyroid infill.

Enjoy!
