Description

Night Dragon filament painting created in HueForge.

To celebrate 200 downloads of this model, I recreated this model as a special edition in a form of Lithophane. It still looks good without backlight, but it really pops out when you backlight it! You can get it here: Night Dragon (Lithophane) - HueForge

Printing instructions:

Filament swaps ONLY, no MMU or AMS required, but AMS makes it much easier.

Use Original HueForge profile to get the intended look, my models are very sensitive to print settings because of color blending between layers.
Every setting and filament changes for AMS are carefully prepared and fine-tuned in the Original HueForge print profile, feel free to change colors, but I recommend not to adjust other settings.
If you want to experiment with your own settings or non-original print profiles, for best look print at 100% infill with a layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.16mm

You can use same filaments as I did, or you can experiment with your own.

Don't forget to upload a make!

Filaments Used:

  • PLA BambuLab Basic Black Transmission Distance: 0.3
  • PLA Aurapol Blue Transmission Distance: 6
  • PLA R3D Light Blue Transmission Distance: 3.5
  • PLA BambuLab Basic Jade White Transmission Distance: 12

Swap Instructions:

  • Start with Black
  • At layer #7 (0.64mm) swap to Blue
  • At layer #13 (1.12mm) swap to Light Blue
  • At layer #18 (1.52mm) swap to Jade White for the rest.

Looks nice! You can use small propane torch to burn the strings away easily.

Slight stringing that was easily taken care of with a small torch. Very Nice

What is a transmission distance?

Transmision Distance (or TD) is a value that tells you how many millimeters a light can travel through the material, before being completely darkened. Basically, it means how much the material is translucent. Higher value means that the material is more translucent. So higher the TD is the more you can see the color of layers underneath it. You can also look at these TD test models to understand it better from the pictures: https://makerworld.com/en/models/31545 https://www.printables.com/cs/model/553131-hueforge-td-tester-mount-125x90mm-led-panel-insert

it printed great, but I believe there was too much black in the original picture with black shading of the dragon siloeted by a mostly black background, means there’s not a lot of contrast to make the dragon pop out as nice as I have seen other hueforged look.
