In anticipation of the August 21st, 2017 Solar Eclipse, I decided to work on a solar film adapter for the 18-135mm STM lens on my Canon 70D.
I want to give credit to two Thingiverse designers for seeding my design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:448437 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2376354
This design is probably more complicated than required for just holding the solar film in front of the lens, but I wanted to develop my skills with Fusion 360, and it was fun.
The mount utilizes the hood mounting flanges, and friction fits in place. It comes off/on easily with one hand quickly and stays in place.
Due to my novice Fusion 360 skills (2017), the STL generated for the main body was full of errors. makeprintable.com fixed it perfectly!
NOTE: Not showing the solar film in my pictures because I misplaced it somewhere.
Update:
I added the four STEP Files so that they be modified. For instance, If you want modify a set of clips for the front cover. You may need to modify the clips depending on the thickness of the film or plates being used.
Update 2: I found my solar film. Spent some time on 8/20/2017 nailing down the setting for tomorrow's eclipse. Added some pictures and was able to see today's sun spots.
