Description

AMS Lite Spool Adapter

If you’re tired of dealing with inserts, when trying to use your AMS Lite with various spools, then you may welcome this solution.

I created this to solve this problem for me and am sharing it with the hope that it helps others. One of the requirements I had for this project was to NOT require any permanent change to the existing spindles. If your AMS Lite has to be sent back to Bambu for Warranty, it can easily be done.

This unit replaces the factory hub On the AMS Lite, allowing virtually any available spool to fit!

Print it at .2mm and use support with the threaded end down. Take your time getting the support off there will be a nice part under there. To make support super easy to remove from threads add a no support cylinder against a small area ot the threads, see picture.

First, remove your hub(just pull it off) take it apart(see video link ), Install the new threaded hub, reusing the factory flange from the factory hub, snap the new hub on your machine and you are ready to go! Tighten so it is “SNUG” there is a “hex wrench” in the model to use if the hub turns while tightening the collar.

Printed one set (so far). Have always had problems with larger holed filament spools staying on the AMS Lite. Having AMS mounted on top the A1 in a forward slanted position added to the problem. This solves that dilemma. In the process of printing out more using A1 and A1 Mini, only seven more sets to go. As you can see by the picture, also printing out the separate center hex knob (link in comments). BTW - changed the fill percentage to 50% for the hex knob for added strength.

Completed printing and installing spool system to both my A1 and A1 Mini AMS Lites. Ditched the idea for the hex nut knob. Was not easy to grip when dealing with a normal sized spool hole (like Bambu spools). Modified the model wrench by adding a handle, works great, sanded end for smooth fit. Models printed great (used Bambu PLA basic) and supports came off very easy leaving perfect threads. AMS hubs easy to take apart (watch video) without any damage and will easily go back together if I change my mind or need to send back AMS unit for warranty.

I like Waynes spool holder a lot. I made a tool that goes in the end that can be glued on to hold it tight or removed when not used. Its a lot smaller and convenient! https://makerworld.com/en/models/390528#profileId-291502

Hi wayne, what is the purpose of hexagon long part? Is there a video about this?

It is for holding on to the hub itself, so it dosent spin when tightening the nut.

Printed 4 so far with no supports ( I need 8 though..). They print just fine and clearances all seem great. The "locking" section that the factory rear collar attaches to seems to require less resistance than the oem ones? The test spools I used when I spun the nut on, it would disangage the back collar when I was holding it. Ive yet to install and try though. If the issue persists, ill just glue it all together. lol replacment spool holders are cheap anyhow. One thing I did however, I exported the cone nut that comes with the 3mf and then imported into cad and sloped it more for the spools ill be using. "fremover" filament has a 50mm hole in their spools. (part of the reason I downloaded thsi model was because I need a different retainer mechanism, otherwise id have to debur the 30+ spools I got lol). So other than those 2 minor issues that I feel is specific to me, I have no complaints personally. So as a thought, you may wanna make a cone nut that steps down even smaller than the ones you have incase anyone else buys fremover. Its pretty cheap and prints good.. so I mean I bet it'll be popular. Thanks wayne! -Wagz-
