Description

Can't decide what your favorite infill pattern is? Well why not show off 4 at once?!

My GYROID reusable filament spool was so popular, that I decided to mix things up by showing off 4 different infill on a single reusable spool! That's right, each spool have the following patterns on each side of the spool:

  • Gyroid (of course)
  • Rectilinear
  • Honeycomb
  • Adaptive Cubic

This version is a bit stiffer than my pure gyroid version due to the infill patterns. While flexibility won't effect it's usefulness in the AMS or AMS Lite, there are some cases where a stiffer spool is useful. This is the better choice in that case.

This remix is based off the official Bambu Lab reusable spool model, so it functions exactly like the official spool, except has the added benefit of very cool infill patterns holding it all together! It also uses significantly less filament.

Can I change any settings?

I would strongly advise you to NOT change any settings or modifiers in the print profile. I've spent a lot of time getting the right balance of strength and coolness, so each setting is there for a reason. The only settings you can change are filament settings if you want to print in something other than PLA.

What's the best filament to print this in?

PLA, PLA+, PLA Tough etc. are my favs here. To preserve the strength, it must print well and these print the best without missing a beat. If you dry a lot of filament, print them in PETG or ABS to avoid warping in filament dryers.

When I attach the spools, I can hear clicking. Should I be worried?

No, this is normal! The RFID tag may gently scrape against the infill patterns when closing the spool. Just keep going until it clicks in place.

Will this block my RFID readability?

Nope! Your AMS will read the tags fine with this reusable spool.

Do I need to use the spacing shim?

It's been added as a 3rd plate because the official Bambu Lab version uses it. I have never need it personally so I don't bother, but you can use it if you like.

i loved this design, it works really awesome in the AMS...but then i dropped 2 spools on the floor.... the edges dented and deformed, and no longer roll in the ams. was printed in generic, white. PLA, maybe PETG would be better? or maybe something can be done to strengthen the outer rim?

I like it. It saves filament and looks good. I will admit that of the 4 patterns, the gyroid section feels the flimsiest. Very soft and feels like it can break very easy. The other 3 sides feel sturdy. I would say switch that Gyroid pattern out for another strong one.
