Description

Scaled down and simplified version of my earlier multi plate 1:500 model, to allow it to print without supports on a single build plate.

Uses 10 colours - so really required 3xAMS's - however it would probably be possible to compromise colours down to 8.

Printing time is around 22 hrs.

Models pictured where printed in Bambu Lab PLA, with filament sponsored by Bambu Lab.

Background details on the original design are in this video. https://youtu.be/5GevDdOS9MU?si=JFMKeY5SKNVLE4ce

Timelapse of print here https://youtu.be/e5oiUcCPgx8?si=FMX4mRpZ9--Mw6yv

NB/ I printed the model on the cool plate and paused it few a few hours - plus forgot to turn the light back on for a while - hence the dark part of the timelapse.

Printing instructions:

  1. Print model without support
  2. If required manually remove some of the extra supports included in the model in order to allow it to print without slicer supports - the most prominent of which is the support under the bar at the rear and in the middle of the radar tower at the front. NB/ The supports under the bridge at the front are part of the real ship - so do not need to be removed.

Note that as this model is 99% based on the multipart/multi deck 1:500 design it does contain a fair bit of internal structure and text labelling etc which is really not needed in this single print version.

NB/ Test model as pictured had some slight colour bleeding between yellow and white due to default flushing volumes being selected - so the published 3mf has been alterted to auto calculate the flushing volumes - which has nearly doubled the yellow→Flushing volume, which should sort out the issue - at the expense of nearly an hours extra print time.

A 1:500 version of this same ship is also available, plus a single colour version. Various other P&O Cruise ship models available too.

This is a personal project. I have no connection to P&O Cruises or Carnival Corporation other than being a customer.

Model hosted exclusively on Makerworld until Dec 2023.

This version is released under a CC Non Commercial No Derivatives license due the P&O Cruises branding.

I don't think I would be keen to put a pause in the print profile - as it might be annoying for users if the print stops in the middle of the night, but I could I suppose add it into the instructions a recommendation to manually pause the print during a colour change if the waste shoot starts to build up. In practice I mostly do this myself anyway as I tend to pause long prints overnight. The problem though with pauses is that it tends to leave the print head over to top of the waste shoot.
