I designed my own Airless Basketball from scratch with its peculiar design with a honeycomb structure that does not need to be inflated, no valves and does not deflate.

This version is not a replica. I modeled it from zero, taking inspiration from the original and making modifications that I considered pertinent.

The diameter is 23 cm you can scale it if you wish.

The best rebound results have been with PEBA-S Kimya as you can see in the gif in this post. Also you can test it with PLA Flex, it bounces more than TPU

My Other Airless Models:

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
I've seen many impressions of my Airless Ball's prototype and I can list the filaments with the best results in rebound and resistance, according to personal tests and feedback shared by the community:

  1. KIMYA PEBA-S (tested by me)

  2. ATARAXIA ART Flexible PLA

  3. SaintSmart GT-3 High Flowability Flexible PLA Filament

  4. Spool3DCA PLA Flex

  5. Super PLA + Overture

Super PLA+ by Overture excels in printing smaller ball versions, avoiding fracture risks. Its excellent bounce makes it perfect for smaller models, offering enhanced durability and fun. In larger models, it may encounter strength issues, only print small.

  6. Kimya TPC -91A 3D

I want to express my sincere gratitude to this entire community for bringing to life the 3D-printed Airless Basketball. As a mechanical engineer passionate about additive manufacturing, this design represents one of my latest projects in Venezuela. Currently, due to the crisis in my country, I am undergoing a migration process and unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to personally print this file. I am pleased to see the prints made from my design, which serves as a valuable testament to collaboration and support within this community.

It happened that I also had it on CGTrader. And the system automatically deleted it. I appealed by showing proof that the CGTrader account was mine, and it was resolved 👍🏻

how did you do a support filament? did you have to change the filament a ton of times?

Replying to @sean53769 :
i published a print profile with the settings. the filament only changes for the interface layer which is the 2 layers on top of the supports directly under the model. around 50 filament changes as i painted the supports on just where needed. if you don't have an ams its probably a PITA and not worth the time though.

Thanks for the cool model. I have tried 50% scale with TPU 95A, NinjaTek 89A, and now TPC 91A. TPU and TPC on my X1C. TPU at this scale doesn't bounce very well. NijaTek 89A is much too soft and doesn't really bounce. TPC bounces fairly well and at full scale may bounce like the real thing. I am still working on getting the TPC to print nicely on the overhangs.

TPU 0.2mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill
Wow very cool model thank you so much designer! I printed full scale in TPU 95a and it bounces to a little above my knees with normal bouncing force. It feels great in my hands and maintains its shape well. I drew on supports with the section view so it didn’t go through the ball. I ordered TPC 91a from Kimya and it works amazingly, is much bouncier a lot like the real ball. unfortunately it failed about 80% of the way through though and this stuff is $50 for 750g 😭.

Yes, please update the thread with your results. That would push me into buying that filament. Any chance you can show a video with you bouncing it? Thanks!

Any chance you have the print profile for the attempt you made with the Kimya TPC? I'm thinking about ordering the 750g spool to give this print a shot, but want to make sure I'm well-prepared before using such expensive filament. Even if you just have a rough idea of how many grams of filament the print was going to use, or what you think the cause of the failure was, that would be awesome. Thanks!

How do you retrieve a Timelapse video after printing?

Replying to @25Printer :
you need to have an sd card in the printer and enable time lapses first. then you can go on the phone app bambu handy and click on devices, then click timelapses in the top left corner of the video feed window. you can also access them from within bambu studio on the computer, or by accessing the sd card directly with some device. i generally use bambu handy so ive included a screenshot.

I printed w/ overture Super PLA+ 50% scale, it bounces amazing. I'm printing the 100% scale now and hopefully it prints successfully. unfortunately can't upload the video here to show everyone.

What profile did you use? It won't let me set petg as support. it says invaild build plate, but the support is petg no?

DO NOT USE OVERTURE SUPER PLA+. I printed full size on my P1S. I knew it wouldn’t bounce right away. it’s too hard. the first drop had a part break off, and by then the model was ready to break in half. The overture pla+ printed well, and came out good tbh. just not meant for bouncing. I have the saintsmart pla flex I’m gonna try next!

that's weird? what % did you do on the infill? I did a mini at 50% scale 100% infill and it bounces really good i've bounced it over 100 times already no breakage going to attempt a full size next

@chunkmunk777 just a small tip i already did one at 50% doesn't bounce well but i assume from what i have seen the 100% size will bounce better

let me know how it comes out. there was just no way the 100% scale would bounce. it’s way too heavy and hard. it’s possible it was something with my settings but I’m not sure

I printed this in kimya TPC 91A and it came out great. All speeds set to 70mm/s worked well but should be lower for better quality. It bounces almost like a real basketball except for when you bounce it too hard it caves in a little. If dropped from head height it almost bounces to my waist! Took almost 3 days on my A1 but well worth it, one of my coolest projects to date.
