Description

This is an auxiliary sensor that can be attached to an existing water leak sensor, such as an Aqara Water Leak Sensor, to add additional monitoring areas to your water detection. I have this connected to Home Assistant to trigger automatic water main shutoff if water leaks are detected. Any sensor that allows external contacts to be attached should work. All this does is create continuity between the two screw points if water bridges the gap between them.

To Use:

  • Add a pause in your slicer at the layer height needed (layer 25 if using a 0.2mm layer height)
  • Drop a M3 nut into each hole, then continue print
  • Screw 2 M3x8 screws into the holes (other size screws can work, but you may need another nut on top to secure the wire.
    • NOTE: THEY MUST BE CONDUCTIVE!!! Check continuity with a multimeter to make sure your screws conduct electricity or the sensor won't work! I used a stainless steel screw. Black screws are typically not conductive.
    • Make sure the end of the screw doesn't extend beyond the bottom sensor feet when fully tightened. If it does, you may want to place another nut on the screw at the top and attach the wire there, then you can adjust the height of the screw as needed.
  • Wrap a wire clockwise around the screw as you tighten it
    • Use a thin (small gauge) wire to connect to your sensor so the weight of the wire doesn't lift the sensor off the ground.
  • Connect the other end of the wire to your sensor

When adding the parts to the slicer, add both the “Water Leak Aux Sensor Body” and "Water Drop Symbol" at the same time and combine into one part. The symbol has a height of 0.2. and the body has a corresponding cutout of 0.2mm.

Alternatively, you can print the version with no symbol.
