🔥 Benchynator – Robot Tribute to Benchy
Specially designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 3DBenchy, the Benchynator is much more than just a remix. It’s a bold robotic reinterpretation, blending the iconic silhouette of the Benchy with a futuristic mechanical aesthetic.
Initially drafted using Makerlab AI, the model was then refined and enhanced in SolidWorks and Blender to result in a version optimized for FDM printing, while staying true to the spirit of the original.
⚙️ Technical Specifications
Model type: Single-piece (non-articulated)
Inspiration: Based on the original 3DBenchy hull, the Benchynator incorporates stylized mechanical elements such as:
- Integrated robotic arms
- A robotized head inspired by the Benchy's cabin
- Flat and beveled surfaces optimized for FDM printing
🧵 Printing Settings (tested on Bambu Lab A1 - mini)
- Filament used: Matte Gray PLA – BambuLab
- Nozzle temperature: 200 °C
- Bed temperature: 45 °C
- Recommended layer height: 0.1 mm
- Nozzle size: 0.2 mm
- Estimated print time: 10 to 12 hours at 150% scale
- Supports: Minimal (progressively reduced in future versions)
🎨 Customization
The Benchynator is intentionally provided in a single-color version to allow for full personalization:
- Painting
- Adding LEDs (space available for manual drilling)
- Metallic effects
- Creative builds

🔧 Planned Evolutions
Benchynator is a living and evolving project. Here are the upcoming development areas:
- Support reduction
- Addition of draft angles to minimize overhangs
- Optimized orientation for FDM printing
- Articulated version
- Development of a snap-fit and movable version

For multi-color or mixed-material printing
Finishing touches:
- Smoothing of edges and transitions for better results on entry-level printers
