Description

Summary

This is a Twist Open Ballpoint Pen in which all parts can be printed easily by 3D printing(besides refill), you can open it by twisting the cap. This might be the first ballpoint pen with mechanical structure that all parts can be made by 3D printing in the world.

The spring is also combined with the parts, so it's no need to buy additional springs.

To ensure the 3D printing spring structure works well, ESUN PLA+ filaments, 0.1 layer height, and 40-60% infill density are recommended. the part with spring needs supports, but don't add supports in the nib hole. The partA and partB can be printed with no support.

The cap and Turn-out part has 2 versions: normal and tight, you can choose anyone you like.

There is another version smaller and more compact than this one that can be bought at:

The refill is the Zebra JF series, you can buy it on:

See the assembly Introduction on images, there is a previous version assemble video for reference:

The twisting structure is from my old design carrot pen, but this one needs additional spring, if you like it, you can buy it at:

Pen is really nice and very chunky. I didn't have any Zebra refills available so I don't know how the print would work with that type of ink. What I used was the ink and spring from a generic beaten up clicker pen I had laying around. I know this is a springless model but because I used a different type of ink than indicated I needed the spring. Additionally I added a cylinder piece to place into the turn in part to fill in the space the size of the cylinder is 5 x 5 x 7mm. I tried both the tight and regular cap and turn out and I feel like the tight is the more secure piece.

I should mention that I loved the thoroughness of the renderings, so, I decided to print with my X1C. Everything was printed without an issue except the spring mechanism by default settings on the Handy app. Spring mechanism took me five prints to figure out how to remove spring without breaking it. It is very fragile. I, at last used support only on the plate, which was easy to remove but than the spring broke after I placed the pen refill. Another flaw in the original design is that the cap; nothing holds cap in place. It falls if you turn it horizontally or upside down.
