Customizable Key Holder

While I was browsing older files on thingiverse, I found the Proteus Key Holder by ProteanMan. I decided that I wanted to make my own with a few extra features.

Files to Download

The 3mf file contains three plates, one contains both the bases, the other 2 contain both the hex and normal inserts. You will have to print the plate with the bases and one of the two insert plates. If you wish to either download spacers or make some modifications to the parts, STL files are also provided. 

For the spacers, you can scale the 1mm spacer provided to whatever height you need or use the two spacers I used for the pictured model.

Printing

If not using the 3MF file, the orientation you place the parts in may require support.

For material, PLA should be fine, but making the base out of PETG should increase the life of the parts. The one I printed was made with PolyLite Black PETG and PolyTerra Army Red PLA and has been in use for 5 years without issue.

Parts

• 3 x M3 screws (Length approx.: KeyThickness+SpacerThickness+7mm)
• 3 x M3 nut

Assembly

Print out all the parts and spacers if desired and stack them together. Tighten the 3 screws, being careful to not overtighten the middle one and, if needed, smooth the edges.

Designs

Feel free to take the insert parts and add your own design to them, that was the point of having them in the first place.

Design was made in Solidworks, the part files for the inserts are included for easier editing if you have access to Solidworks.
