Description
Easy to use sunglasses compartment for car visor
An easy to use one handed (sun)glasses compartment clip. Comparable to commercial options.
Boost Me (for free)
Well, if you want. It means a lot to me :D
Boosts also help me justify my protopyping to my wife... 😅
I recommend printing in ASA or PETG if your car sometimes stay in intense sun, as PLA will tend to deform under prolonged heat.
Additional materials
You will need round magnets or velcro (use corresponding model). For the round magnets, the model comes by default with 8x2mm holes but I also added a little adaptator on a plate, simply resize to your needs. Adding .2mm to the size tends to make a good printed fit.
Measurements :
65x26x165 (mm) (inside)
Each size's clip is not compatible with one another, but they have the same “jaw” sizes, here are the options:
Measure your sunshade's thickness to know which one to print, if you dont find one that makes sense for you, mention it to me, I'll help you out !
14mm inside curve with mouth opening of 7.5mm
20mm inside curve with mouth opening of 10mm
25mm inside curve with mouth opening of 14mm
The measurements are based on most common measurements I could find online for commercial cases, some really large or deep sunglasses (like the Meta ones with the camera) might not fit.
Assembly
- Apply superglue in the holes and fit the magnets, make sure to verify that they are attracted to one another once assembled.
- A bit of force or some light tapping with a hammer may be required to fit the pin in the holes.
Note:
I recommend printing with tree supports as they are easier to remove inside the compartment. I did print one with classic (snug) supports and had to use pliers.
