Toroidal Propeller Lab

Unleash your creativity and design custom toroidal propellers using OpenSCAD and MakerLab Customizer! Simply click the “Customize” button to begin creating your own design with parameters such as blade count, pitch, diameter and more! Customization Tips

  • Blade count - More blades will generally be less efficient at generating lift for a given design
  • Blade pitch - How far the propeller travels when making one complete rotation (measured in mm)
    • For most sizes the best pitch is somewhere between diameter and 2*diameter
  • Diameter - Outer diameter of the toroidal ring propeller (measured in mm)
  • Thickness - Thickness of propeller blades (measured in mm along the XY-plane)
  • Height - Height of the toroidal propeller (measured in mm along the Z-axis)

Printing Tips

  • To avoid layer adhesion issues clean build plate using water and a light soap (wiki guide)
  • Recommended to print toroidal rings using the High Quality 0.16mm preset from Bambu Labs
    • This profile offers good overhang performance due to the reduced layer height and print speeds
  • Using ABS, ASA or PA can give a 12-15% weight reduction compared to PLA and PETG

An example print profile generated with the default script settings is included but users are encouraged to upload their own designs as new profiles and earn points when others download and print your profile!
