Description

Update January 25, 2024: A new version of this model has been released! It prints much cleaner at the bottom, and has the same threading. Check it out here

This is a large threaded egg. It was designed to be large enough to hold one of McGybeer's articulated dragons (printed at the default size). Looks particularly good in multicolor coextruded filaments.

It will print OK without supports, but the bottom points of some of the scales get a bit messy.

Update January 5, 2024: There is a new “revised” version which aims to address some of the issues with the messy early layers. It's not perfect by any means, but it has a wider base which is less prone to issues. There is also improved alignment of the lower scales.

Printed to match an articulated dragon for my sisters birthday, used tree support - worked really well. Very cool!

Absolutely love the design and idea! However, my egg is extremely difficult to screw together. I don't know if its the filament type I chose or if they are all that way but it screeches at me when I screw it together lol Wish I could upload a video to show ya... So, could it just be that this is "abrasive" filament due to the sparkles and thats what makes its "stick" when screwing it together?

Add a small dab of oil to the track and spin it a few times! Helps a lot

Tolles und sparsames Projekt. Die Spitzen der Ei mit variables Schicht optimieren auf 0,08mm Schichthöhe. Dann sieht es super aus.

I absolutely LOVE this design however the bottom three layers of scales have overhang issues as you noted. I tried it with supports and saw little to no improvement. If you are willing to share your source files I would love to try and find a solution. Printed on X1C with Eryone Rainbow Silk (100%) and the NEW Overture Easy PLA Shimmer (150%).

Hi I have printed twice with no majority issues only that bottom scales are printed in the air. However, I have question How did you marked up that three-colour filament in the both parts? Both my prints are tilted about 30 degree (one colour)

Hmm, I'm assuming you didn't rotate the parts at all from the print profile, right? I didn't do anything special to mine to keep the colors aligned, I'll have to do some testing to see if I can figure out what went wrong on yours.

wow this looks amazing in rainbow silk filament. I can’t work out how the colours line up perfectly on the top and bottom. It even fits in our new Star Dragon.

The trick is making sure you don't change the orientation of the halves - as long as the threads are aligned so they're facing the same way, the filament colors will line up!

is it possible to make the model in one big piece instead of two parts. I really want to make one really big egg

I think you can just stack them in Bambu Studio, but I'll upload a one piece option when I get a chance.

It's posted! I listed it as a remix of this model. I haven't yet had a chance to make a print profile though, perhaps you could be the first if you give it a try?

Printed with default settings and didn't noticed that supports of one part overlap with another half
