Description

4 flower-themed color lithophanes. These lithophanes are designed to be used in the Hexaphane display system. You can find the display case here for use with tealights or a USB light stick (see display case for links to the lights).

These lithophanes were printed with the Bambu CMYK bundle at .07mm layer height. I used PIXEstL to create my own color profiles and create stls with 7 layers of color instead of the tradition 5 layers generated from other programs. The hex pattern was made using a negative volume mask on the slicer plate.

Profiles are included for X/P/A1 series printers and for the A1 Mini. All were printed using a .4mm nozzle (with .3mm line width) and .07mm layer height. These can also be printed with a .2mm nozzle if desired, but the .4mm nozzle with a .3mm line width setting gets very close to the quality of the .2mm nozzle.

Printing Instructions

The .3mf files are very large (~130MB) and take a minute to load and slice. Please be patient. The print profiles have all of my preferred settings, but since the .07mm layer height is less than the .08mm specified in the printer settings, you may get the following error. Make sure and select “Ignore” or Studio will automatically set the layer height to .08mm. It's perfectly fine to print at .07mm.

Is there somewhere I can read up on this process to understand how it's being made? I would like to try it out, but I need to understand what's happening first. Thank you.

The best place to start is the Bambu Wiki that is linked from the CMYK bundle in the store (https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/knowledge-sharing/CMYK-color-lithophane-printing-instructions%20). It shows how to create a color lithophane using Lithophanemaker.com. Each pixel of the image is analyzed to determine the best combination of 5 layers of CMYK colors to achieve the target color for that pixel. You can also google CMYK to understand more about how different colors are generated from only 4 colors.
