I wanted a way of hanging some rope lights in my basement from the air return ductwork. I had a bunch of 8x3 magnets, so I decided to make some hangers that connect to the ducts magnetically. The quality of the magnets and weight of the lights will determine how close together these need to be mounted to hold the weight. I found that they hold the rope lights about 18 inches a part just fine.
