I&#39;ve been working on making 3D-printable fishing reel from skratch for a while now and finally got it done. I will continue to work on this design to provide different options and visual appearances.   Introducing my 3D-printable fly fishing reel, engineered for simplicity and performance. Designed to be easily assembled, this reel integrates seamlessly with a 608 ball bearing and utilizes standard hardware including threaded inserts and bolts.&nbsp;Bill of materials, main dimensions and assembly instructions in better resolution are attached as PDF-file.&nbsp;Key features:<ul><li>Efficient Design: The entire reel requires just 93 grams of filament, making it lightweight and economical to produce.</li><li>User-Friendly Assembly: Designed with DIY enthusiasts in mind, the assembly process is straightforward, requiring only common tools and components.</li><li>High Compatibility: The reel uses a 608 ball bearing, a standard part that&#39;s widely available, ensuring smooth operation and easy replacement.</li><li>Durable and Reliable: Constructed with sturdy materials and standard hardware, this reel is built to withstand the rigors of fly fishing.</li></ul>&nbsp;Options:<ul><li>As per revision 02 on June 8th 2024 - Reel base has right and left handed option. These are now included in the print profiles. Original file included base meant for left-handed, I now added option for right-handed. &nbsp;Geometry updates<ul><li>Item 4 - Mounting hole diameter increased from 6 mm to 7.2 mm to provide more options for bolt selection.</li><li>Item 7 -  Hole diameter increased from 5 mm to 5.5 mm for easier installation of M4 threaded inserts.</li><li>Item 15 - BOM had a mistake M3 bolts instead of M4 bolts. Ferries are great to play with because they combine 3 vehicles which are used by children to play with. Ships, cars and trains can be combined. I have chosen the Fehmarn as a model for my ferry. You can either test your skill, and assemble it without any help, or use the provided assembly instructions pdf, which you can find on the files page, in the other files category. When assembled, the model stands on it's own, and doesn't require any support. The pieces should feel tight during the assembly process. It's necessary, as the individual parts get loose over time, and they wouldn't hold together properly, if the fit was loose to begin with. Don't be afraid to use some force, while assembling the model, but at the same time, be careful not to break the parts. If the required force is unreasonably high, try out the version with looser tolerances.If you mange to break a piece, don't worry, you don't have to reprint the entire model. You can simply download the loose parts version, open it in your slicer, pick the part you broke, and delete the rest.<h4>Files information</h4>I've included multiple files, to suit everyone's needs. . You can choose between two versions: a kit card, and a version with loose parts. The kit card is perfect, if you want to gift the print to someone, while the version with loose parts is a much better choice, if you want to print the model for yourself, as you don't have to break the parts loose and post process them in any way. Every machine is different, and some are capable of more dimensionally accurate prints than others, that's why I've included a high tolerances version for each of these variants of the model, just in case your machine falls into the second category. If you don't know, if you should go for the standard, or high tolerances version, I've included a quick test print, which will help you with your decision. The ToleranceTest file includes Two sets of two parts labeled ST (Standard Tolerances), and HT(High Tolerances). Once it's done printing, put the parts together, and see, which one works the best for your setup. Be careful, if you want accurate test results, don't mix up the ST and HT versions, always assemble HT with HT, and ST with ST.<figure class="image"><img src="https://makerworld.bblmw.com/makerworld/draft/375059/2024-01-09_0p319ungo8il.webp"></figure><h4>Make sure, that first layer squish compensation is enabled and active! “Elephant's foot” caused by a too squished first layer could cause problems with the assembly, as the parts may not slide into each other smoothly enough, and the assembly process could require a significant force, which could lead to a damage being caused to the parts. </h4><h4> </h4><h4>Material</h4> PLA<h4>Layer height - important!</h4> 0,2 mm; 0,1 mm, 0,05 mmHeight of the model must be divisible by the layer height!<h4>Infill</h4>>15%<h4>Support</h4>None. The model was designed not to require any support material.<h4>Scaling</h4>Upscaling is possible, downscaling isn't recommended due to the small contact area and narrow parts of the model. Be careful with upscaling, If you want the parts to hold together nicely, it's absolutely crucial for the height of the model to be divisible by the layer height, otherwise the parts will have too much play and won't hold together, as intended. Base thickness(height) at 100% scale is 1mm.When printing an upsaled version, go for the standard tolerances option, the high tolerances version would have way too much play, and the parts would fall apart.<h4>Orientation</h4>Default<h4>Adhesion aid</h4>The model contains a large quantity of small, and delicate parts, which might cause problems, if your print surface suffers from poor layer adhesion! If you have problems with small parts not sticking, definitely use some kind of adhesion booster, such as an adhesive spray, or gluestick, or alternatively, a brim.<figure class="image"><img src="https://makerworld.bblmw.com/makerworld/draft/375059/2024-01-09_q49y6wp7ja7e.webp"></figure>In this section, you can find a list of all updates and fixes, which were introduced to the model along the way. Each update will be explained thoroughly, so that you know, which issue was every specific update adressing. If you're having any problems with the model, you can check here, if a new, revised version of the model, has already been released in a response to your problem, or not. If you run into any issues with the model, please pay a visit to a section of known issues, which can be found just below the Updates and fixes. If you won't find your specific problem in there, don't hesitate to contact me via dm.&nbsp;<h4>Update 1 (07/18/23)</h4>Updated all model files to v 1.1, and fixed multiple reported issues with the model.<ul><li>Locking slots, used for connecting the individual components, were reworked, and made tighter, so that the parts hold together better, as a response to a reported issue with poor integrity of the model, due to a loose locking system.</li><li>The card version had undergone significant changes and improvements, making it easier to break the parts loose, and allowing a cleaner break, leaving significantly less residue on the parts. As a tradeoff, the card version is now slightly bigger, the horizontal dimensions had increased from 114x117 mm to 150x135 mm. The individual components aren't nested as efficiently, as in the the previous version, but their positioning is much cleaner, and the parts are significantly easier to reach, and break off. </li></ul><figure class="image"><img src="https://makerworld.bblmw.com/makerworld/draft/375059/2024-01-09_heqd3jz341jc.webp"></figure>7/18/23 Work in progress: Reworking the assembly instructions, in an attempt to make the assembly process more efficient, comprehensive, and easier.<figure class="image"><img src="https://makerworld.bblmw.com/makerworld/draft/375059/2024-01-09_8yvesaizrv56.webp"></figure>My work is free for personal, non commercial use.
