Decase&Open Chassis:Why I choose them?
Decase&Open Chassis:Why I choose them?IS IT ON THE RIGHT WAY, DECASE & OPEN CHASSIS? 🛣️ Prologue: A Shock from Dismantling 🔌A few weeks ago, as a Chinese eighth-grader, I opened up an old electronic piggy bank, just looking for some coins. But when I saw the internal screw posts, reinforcing ribs, and snap-fit clips, I was stunned. Inside such a cheap, mass-produced item hid a silent, precise logic—every structural element existed for an absolute reason, solely to achieve reliability under the most cost-effective conditions. Yet, this precise logic was hidden within that cheap plastic shell. At that moment, I looked back at the pile of parts on my desk, designed for the Realme GT8 Pro—the so-called “Pro PhoneDecase.” I had chosen exposed screws, chosen an “honest language.” I believed this was a direction worth trying. But simultaneously, the “modularity” I pursued shouldn’t stop at a cool concept; it had to withstand the test of this most fundamental, industrial logic. This was the starting point for all my choices.1. Why “Decase”? — Defining a New Path 🗺️Before I started modeling, I kept asking myself: Must phone accessories be a choice only between a “clumsy protective case” and a “fragile decorative piece”?My answer is a new word: Decase (/ˈdiːkeɪs/). Born from the fusion of Deco (decoration) and Case (protective case), it defines a dynamic system: It starts from the camera decoration area (Deco) as a “creative anchor point” and, through adding modules, gradually grows into a fully functional, personalized piece of equipment. This is more than a naming game; it’s a fundamental shift in logic. One could say it moves from “passive wrapping” to “active construction.” Decase is the name of this new path.2. Why “Open Chassis”? — Building the Cornerstone of Order 🏗️With a concept in place, Pro PhoneDecase needed an executable architecture. This is the Open Chassis.Within the confined space of about 6.5 inches, chaotic stacking is the enemy. The core function of Open Chassis is to establish order, much like urban planning. It strictly divides the back space into three zones: · 🏗️ Structural Zone: The core skeleton that bears all stress—the solid foundation. · 🔋 Functional Zone: Reserved standard interfaces for installing core modules like storage compartments and stands. · 🎭 Decorative/Interactive Zone: For expressing personality and providing emotional interaction (e.g., a fidget module). This division ensures that no matter how the user expands it, the result is tidy, reliable, and efficient. The Open Chassis is not the product itself; it is the product’s constitution. 3. Why “Screws”? — A Fanatical Oath to “Reliability” 🔩This is the most counter-mainstream yet core choice. I know full well that in today’s world of “quick-release,” choosing screws requires courage.I chose to install 41 M2 screws on the Pro PhoneDecase. Yes, 41. This isn’t for the sake of complexity, but because:· ⚡ Efficiency · The Optimal Solution Under Spatial Tyranny: In the extremely space-constrained interior of the Decase, a single screw can firmly bond 3 or more parts within an area of about 10mm². This is an engineering efficiency that no snap-fit can achieve in the same space. · 🎨 Aesthetics · The “Nothing” Language: Exposed screws are another display of CMF aesthetics. The sheen of the screws is eye-catching yet subtly elegant—the perfect choice to break the cheap, dull feel of plastic. · 🛡️ Reliability · A Rigid Commitment Defying Physical Laws: Plastic fatigues; snap-fits wear out. The rigid locking provided by screws can evenly distribute impact force across the entire frame during a drop. Our prototype tests show it pursues “absolute reliability” that remains after millions of vibrations. · 🌱 Ecology · A Universal Language for Infinite Potential: Every exposed screw is a standardized expansion interface. It’s not just for fixing; in the future, it could serve as a power supply, data transmission point, or even the axis for motion structures for other modules. These 41 points form the physical foundation for infinite future possibilities. I believe it can transform every phone into a Nothing Phone.  · 🔄 Finally, It's Not Just Screws: For the Open Chassis, I promise to develop quick-release interfaces based on screws. These will house components that require frequent swapping, improving creator efficiency.I choose to exchange that crisp but potentially fragile “click” for “41 instances of definitive mechanical locking.” In the world of Decase, reliability is a quality that can be measured by density. 4. Results: When Concept Meets Reality ✨Based on these choices, Pro PhoneDecase moved from renderings to reality:· It has integrated a rotating, stacked SD card compartment, a programmable NFC chip compartment, and a standby tool module with a hidden kickstand. Perhaps it’s rudimentary, but it’s the first step. · It passed assembly tests, with all core functions realized. · It has been submitted as a complete system for competition and is currently under review. This is more than just a model; it’s tangible proof of a concept.5. The Answer 💡 I don’t want to be verbose. The reason I use Decase and Open Chassis is:“To try being a large bit different: a different concept, a different DIY, a different aesthetic, a different freedom.”6. Invitation: This Is Just The Beginning 🚀I view the Open Chassis as an open hardware protocol. Sharing it today, I hope it can become a starting point.I eagerly want to hear the community's voice:· 💭 Based on this zoning and screw matrix, what kind of new module would you need? · 🤔 Regarding this “heavy on reliability” philosophy, what’s your take? · ⚠️ For this structure or style, do you have any criticism? All these choices lead to the same goal: building a platform solid, open, and respectful enough for everyone’s creativity to land safely and grow freely. If Pro PhoneDecase succeeds, if the direction and pace of Decase & Open Chassis are right, I will take it into the crowdfunding arena.I’ve chosen my path. Now, I look forward to seeing your thoughts in the comments.
