Weekly Roundup Vol. 18 | Jul 6 – 12, 2026
This week, the community's into a whole new kind of printing: #HideAndSeekChallenge
Print a little figure, tuck it into an absurd-yet-perfectly-plausible corner, and wait for someone to say the magic words: "Found you!" At home, on the street, at your desk… there's no spot a figure can't hide—only hides you haven't thought of yet.
Print one, hide it, snap a photo—come play Hide & Seek on MakerWorld! 🫣 01 Print Inspiration 02 Community SpotlightWhat the community is sharing, reading, and talking about this week 🎉 Community EventsMW × Insta360 Luna Ultra Design ChallengeHide & Seek: Blend In, Disappear in Plain SightContest Period:Jul 10 – Aug 9, 2026 Event Period: Jul 7 – 27, 2026#Contests #Let's Make it #Insta360Lunaultra #Printforluna#Hideandseekchallenge 📌#PrintClinic——Top Diagnoses of This WeekOur enthusiastic community members showed incredible skill in the #PrintClinic zone this week! Standout work includes HexTracks (modular train track starter sets) and electric mini train designs with smooth assembly and strong shelf presence. Looking forward to more builds that turn printing into something you want to show off — and maybe sneak into everyday scenes.@MagicArtLabCertified Laser & Cut creator — 81 designs focused on papercraft templates and cut files for home décor and giftable moments. Standout work includes Sea Shadowbox, Rose Bookmark, and layered greeting cards — clean layering, display-ready results, and beginner-friendly assembly. Hide & Seek: Blend In, Disappear in Plain Sight
A 3D printing challenge about camouflage, poses, and pure imagination.Event Period: July 7 – July 27, 2026 (20 days) The best hiding isn't about disappearing into the dark — it's standing in the light, and still going unseen. One figure. One pose. One perfectly chosen spot — it could be a plant in your flowerpot, an ornament on your shelf, or a little decoration on the corner of your desk.Whoever spots it will freeze for a second… then burst out laughing. Now it's your turn. 🏆 What You Can Win8 makers will win the Best Hiding Spot Award. The cleverer and more unexpected your hide, the better your chances. How to JoinThere are two ways to play — pick one, or do both.🖨 Print & Hide (Main Track)1. Pick a figure from our collection to download and print — or search "hide figure" on MakerWorld to explore more.2. Hide it in a real scene around you — home, office, a coffee shop…3. Take a photo or video.4. Post it to the MakerWorld community with the tag #HideAndSeekChallenge. → Enters the Best Hiding Spot Award 👇 Start here — the Hide & Seek collection:Hide & Seek: Blend-In🔍 Spot the Figure (open to everyone — no printer needed!)Hunt for the figures other makers have tucked into their photos, and prove you've got the sharpest eyes in the community.💡 Got modeling skills? Upload your own original "hide figure" design (tagged #HideAndSeekChallenge) so others can download and print it. Standout models get featured with official recommendation exposure. 🎬 See How It WorksNew here? See how other makers pull it off:📱 On TikTok — ▶️ [Watch on TikTok]▶️ Hand-drawn with markers ▶️ Multi-color print, then hidden in the scene▶️ Printed white, then painted with kids for a family hide-and-seek 📸 On Instagram▶️ Single-color filament print that blends right in▶️ Spot all the hiders▶️ Hidden in plain sight on a city street Creative Directions🎭 Camouflage: Make It Look Like It BelongsThe whole challenge comes down to one thing — disguise. Blend your figure into a real scene so well that people's eyes slide right past it:Strike a cactus pose and stand it in a flowerpotSneak into a bowl of instant noodles, one hand crying for helpHug a book spine and become "a book" on the shelf✨ Level Up | Give It a StoryWant to stand out? Give your figure an identity or a little plot that makes people grin when they spot it:A ninja frozen mid-infiltration in the cornerA cookie thief pretending to be a vaseAn introvert who decided to "become one with the sofa"Tip: Mimic the shapes of everyday objects with your poses; paint or swap filament so your figure truly disappears; then add a hint of motion (just landed? mid-climb? startled?). The more absurd-yet-plausible, the better. Awards & Judging🏆 Best Hiding Spot Award — for the most creative disguise + the most surprising scene.8 winners, each receiving a $20 gift cardJudging Criteria: Fun · Blend-in · Scene creativity · Photo quality · EngagementResults: Winners will be announced in this post on Aug 5, 2026, and contacted via MakerWorld Chat (private message).💡 Each maker can win once — but the more hides you post, the better your chances. Together, let's end this game of hide-and-seek in the loudest, most joyful way.Printing a figure is easy. Inappropriate Content Cleanup on MakerWorld
Hey everyone,MakerWorld is for everyone — creators, families, and yes, kids too. That means what shows up in browse, search, and recommendations should feel welcoming and safe for all of them. Lately, some of you have flagged that inappropriate content (NSFW and similar) is still slipping through.Let's be clear up front: MakerWorld doesn't want or need this content to drive traffic. The issue isn't that we're turning a blind eye, it's that too many of these items are slipping past our current detection systems. We hear you, and we're already acting on it. Two problems we're targetingWe're seeing this show up in two forms, and we're addressing both:The model itself is inappropriate — sexually suggestive, explicit, or otherwise low-quality content that doesn't belong in open spaces. The model is fine, but the cover is used as clickbait — a normal model (say, a bracelet) paired with an unrelated, sexually suggestive cover image to farm clicks. After your recent feedback, we accelerated review and actioned 1,000+ models. And started cracking down on repeat-offender accounts that push this content through bulk uploads. Here's how we're tackling it right now: our moderators are manually cleaning this up while our tech team builds a stronger detection system. Building better detection takes ongoing work to get right, so for the time being, we'll be leaning on hands-on human oversight alongside these systems. How enforcement worksDepending on the severity of the violation, we may:• Remove the content entirely,• Pull it from all recommendation surfaces,• Mark it as NSFW so it's only visible to users who've opted in, or• Limit its reach (reduced distribution). For accounts, penalties scale with how often and how seriously they violate the rules ranging from a warning all the way to a permanent ban. What we're doing going forward• Fast action on reported models, with escalating penalties for repeat offenders.• Proactive review of existing trending content — not just waiting on reports — with enforcement whenever we find violations.• Better detection, since the core problem is content slipping past our systems in the first place.• Dedicated resources so this is continuous work, not a one-time sweep.• More control for you: NSFW display is off by default. You can double-check your settings at the bottom of your Preferences page.A note on scope: This isn't about broadening censorship. We're focused on content that's clearly inappropriate for open spaces everyone can see. Borderline cases go through human review, and if we get one wrong, our appeal channels are open and we'll take another look fast. How you can help• See something off? Report it, and we'll act ASAP.• Think your work was flagged by mistake? Appeal through our existing channels and we're prioritizing appeals tied to this effort. Why it can feel worse than the numbers suggestThis content is only roughly 0.2% of overall traffic over time. So why does it feel so much more prominent? Because this kind of content tends to get high click-through rates. So when a piece slips past our filters, our algorithm sees those clicks and accidentally pushes it to the front page making it far more visible than its actual volume would suggest. What's nextBeyond the work above, we're also planning a Minor Protection Mode — a dedicated experience designed to keep browsing safe for younger users. This is still just a preliminary idea, we'll share more as it takes shape. Thanks for holding this community to a higher standard. We'll keep you posted.— The MakerWorld Team

What's New with MakerLab Credits
Why We're Making These ChangesWe want to be completely open with you about the reasoning here, because we think you deserve the full story. How we startedWhen MakerLab launched more than two years ago, we made it almost entirely free for everyone. At the time, we priced based on exports rather than actual generation costs. When our user base was smaller, the multi-million-dollar annual subsidy was something MakerWorld could comfortably absorb. What changedSince last October, a few things have shifted dramatically:AI tools got much better, and usage exploded. Our user growth went far beyond anything we'd planned for and far beyond what the original subsidy could sustainably support.Since generating models is currently free, we've noticed a growing number of AI-generated models on MakerWorld that haven't gone through print verification, including accounts that upload hundreds of models all at once. While our team is actively reviewing submissions, some inevitably slip through the cracks, and because there's no cost involved, taken-down accounts can simply pop back up again. These mismatches between a model's images and the actual print lead to a poor experience for everyday users, and improving this is a key priority for us.Over time, we've seen MakerLab being used in some unexpected ways — from commercial sellers mass-producing products for resale. To be clear, we have nothing against commercial use — we're genuinely glad MakerLab has been helpful for growing businesses. The challenge is that our free, community-funded resources were designed for everyday makers, and they shouldn't be subsidizing large-scale commercial production. While we love seeing creativity flourish, these patterns have drifted from our original goal, so we're making a few changes to keep things sustainable. Why pricing matters for qualityThink of it like ChatGPT: the more powerful the model, the higher the cost, and the gap can be huge. The world of 3D generation is moving fast, and we want MakerLab to keep offering you the very best 3D and image generation models out there, instead of being limited to cheaper, downgraded options or having to drop the most capable tools because they cost too much to give away for free. That's why we need MakerLab credits to align with the real cost of generation — it's the only way to keep this going for everyone. What we're doing about itThese changes focus specifically on features that rely on third-party paid service like AI. To be clear about what stays free:All parametric generators built by MakerWorld remain completely free.Every account still gets free trial uses, so you can keep exploring MakerLab without paying. Charges only apply beyond those free uses. For generators built by creators, each creator decides whether to charge. We don't want MakerLab to become a paywall. Our goal is sustainable pricing that lets us keep the service fast, stable, and high-quality — while still giving everyone a way to try things for free. The bigger pictureWe know these changes may mean some users move on, and we understand that. But we believe that fair, transparent, and sustainable pricing is the foundation of any service that's truly competitive in the market. And honestly, it puts healthy pressure on us, too. It pushes us to build a product that's genuinely worth paying for.MakerLab isn't just an AI API aggregator. We're committed to investing in the harder problems that really matter — things like model splitting, watertight meshes, and front-end optimizations built around real-world printing. And if we want people to pay for MakerLab, we have to stay competitive on price, which is exactly why we're committed to cost-based pricing. Finally, we believe this is good for the health of the entire 3D generation industry. MakerLab integrates nearly every major 3D generation provider, so when users are free to choose, their willingness to "vote with their wallet" becomes the clearest signal there is — one that pushes every provider to keep improving their models and deliver a better experience for everyone. What's New:When Credits are used: A few AI features (those powered by paid external services) will now use Credits when you generate, rather than when you export, reflecting how these tools work behind the scenes.Free trials, reimagined: Instead of monthly free Credits, you'll get free trial uses tailored to each tool so you can try exactly what you need.More Points options: We're adding a new 80 Points → 600 Credits option. (Some older MakerWorld Points options will be retired.)Refunds available: Eligible unused Credits from past Points exchanges can be refunded back to Points.Buy Credits directly: You can now purchase MakerLab Credits whenever you need them. These updates are rolling out gradually, so you may not see them right away. Until they reach your account, MakerLab will continue to follow the rules shown on your screen. We've put together a complete guide covering free trial uses, Credit costs, pricing, Points exchange, refunds, and FAQs.👉 Read the complete guide here

VFX Artist by day. Maker by night.
Structales - Roadrunner4d - a VFX artist with 15+ years in Film & TV Daniel Mueri - better known on MakerWorld as Structales - Roadrunner4d, has spent the last 15 years working as a VFX artist in the film and advertising industries. A co-founder of Cloudscape in Switzerland, he specializes in compositing, animation, and visual effects for commercial clients. His name also appears on IMDb thanks to his work on the 2009 sci-fi film „Cargo” and many other projects. Although 3D modeling has been part of his professional life for years, he only truly became interested in it when he discovered 3D printing. What had previously been just another step in a production pipeline suddenly became something tangible he could hold in his hands. Initially focused on functional objects, Daniel's creative direction changed after entering a castle-themed MakerWorld competition. Returning to Cinema 4D software, he developed a distinctive workflow that combines polygonal modeling, texture-driven detailing, and a cinematic aesthetic inspired by theme parks, fantasy worlds, and movie props. Today, as Structales - Roadrunner4d, he is well recognized by MakerWorld’s community for creating marble runs, fantasy buildings, mechanical puzzles, and interactive display pieces. Recently, he expanded into laser cutting with the Bambu Lab H2D, combining engraved wood and 3D-printed components in increasingly ambitious creations. Despite successful crowdfunding campaigns and a growing audience, Daniel remains motivated primarily by curiosity and creativity. After years of creating digital worlds for screens, he now focuses on designing physical objects that people can touch, assemble, and experience in the real world. MakerLab Credit Billing Rule Adjustment Preview
Hello everyone,MakerLab's generative features are increasingly used for compute-intensive scenarios like Image to 3D and Make My Statue. The current "consume Credit upon export" rule can no longer support the growing generation demand, and it limits our ability to optimize queuing and integrate higher-quality models and features. Therefore, we plan to officially launch the updated MakerLab Credit billing and acquisition rules in late June 2026. After the new version goes live, some generative features will switch from "consume Credit upon export" to "consume Credit upon generation". Credit consumption for some features will also be adjusted based on actual compute costs. The exact cost varies by feature and generation type, and will be clearly shown before you start a generation. Beyond billing changes, this adjustment lays the foundation for faster, more stable, higher-quality generation going forward. This announcement covers the core changes, transition arrangements, and how previously exchanged Credits will be handled. 1. Core ChangesAfter the new version launches, Credit billing and acquisition will change as follows:Billing timing changes: Some generative features will switch from "consume upon export" to "consume upon generation";Per-generation cost increases: Per-generation Credit consumption for some features will increase, potentially reaching 30+ Credits;Free trial method changes: Monthly free Credits will be replaced by limited account-level feature trial uses, no longer refreshing monthly;Points exchange rate changes: The MakerWorld Points to MakerLab Credit exchange rate will change; the current 1:10 (MakerWorld Points to MakerLab Credits) rate will be discontinued;Historical exchanges can be refunded: Eligible unused Credits exchanged via MakerWorld Points can be refunded to Points based on historical exchange records;Direct purchase added: Direct purchase of MakerLab Credits will be supported. We'll also roll out generation experience and feature improvements at launch and in subsequent updates:For relevant generators, the maximum number of supported projects will increase from 30 to 500;Make My Statue will support retaining multiple generation results, and higher-precision 3D model versions will roll out gradually;Concurrent Image to 3D tasks will increase from 1 to 5, with more advanced, higher-quality models from different providers integrated later.Future updates will go beyond the items above, with more generation capabilities and experience improvements to come.To ease the transition, each account can still exchange Credits at the 1:10 ratio with a limited quota from this announcement's release date until launch. 2. Why We're Adjusting the Billing MethodCurrently, some generative features mainly charge a small amount of Credit at export, with generation itself essentially free. This lowered the barrier to try features but brought clear limitations.Generation tasks incur substantial real compute costs. For Image to 3D:Users typically consumed only 2 Credits when exporting a model; At the current Points exchange value, those 2 Credits are worth less than 0.02 USD;The actual compute cost per generation can exceed 0.2 USD;Users often generate multiple times before exporting just one result. In other words, past pricing covered only a small fraction of compute costs; when users generate multiple times and export only one result, real coverage may drop below 1/30 of the actual cost.As users and demand grow, we've had to limit concurrent generation tasks to control compute spending and concurrency, leading to queuing and long waits for some users.Switching to "consume Credit upon generation" aligns Credit consumption more closely with actual compute costs, creating room to improve generation speed, queue stability, model quality, and new feature rollouts. 3. Transition Arrangements and Timeline1. After This AnnouncementFrom the publication date until the new version launches:The current Credit price and "consume upon export" rule remain unchanged; Each account can still exchange up to 150 Credits at the 1:10 ratio; further 1:10 exchanges are unavailable once the quota is used;Already-exchanged Credits will remain valid and will not be cleared or frozen.2. At New Version LaunchThe new billing rules are expected to launch in late June 2026. The exact timing is subject to the official launch notice. The following changes will take effect simultaneously at launch:Some generative features will start consuming Credits under the new generation-based rules;Monthly free Credits will be replaced by limited account-level feature trial uses; The 1:10 Points-to-Credit exchange rate will be officially discontinued; The new exchange rate takes effect: 80 MakerWorld Points for 600 MakerLab Credits; The portal for refunding historically exchanged Credits to Points will open;Direct purchase of MakerLab Credits will go online. 4. Free Trial Method ChangesAfter launch, instead of issuing a fixed number of free Credits each month, we'll provide a limited number of account-level feature trial uses. These trial uses apply to designated features, do not refresh monthly, and won't auto-recover next month once used up. Specific counts, applicable features, and validity are subject to in-product prompts. The current monthly free Credits (which expire within the month) will be canceled at launch. Unused portions won't carry over and aren't eligible for Points refunds. 5. Points to Credit Exchange ChangesThe MakerWorld Points to MakerLab Credit exchange rate will be adjusted alongside other changes. The current 1:10 ratio won't be discontinued immediately. Until launch, each account can still exchange at 1:10 with a limited quota.Specifically:Each account can exchange up to 150 Credits at 1:10 during the transition period;Once the quota is reached, the account cannot exchange further at 1:10;The 1:10 rate is officially discontinued at launch; The new rate is 80 MakerWorld Points for 600 MakerLab Credits. 6. Refunding Historical Exchanged Credits to PointsWe understand the new billing method affects Credits' real purchasing power for generation. So for unused MakerLab Credits exchanged via MakerWorld Points, we'll offer the option to refund Points after launch.Eligible for refund:Unused Credits exchanged via MakerWorld Points before this announcement;Unused Credits exchanged via MakerWorld Points during the transition period.Refund rules:Based on corresponding historical exchange records;Calculated using the actual exchange rate at that time, not the new rate;Used Credits are not refundable;Credits not from Points exchange are not refundable;Monthly free Credits expiring within the month are not refundable;Credits from events, compensations, or other special sources are not refundable. The refund portal opens at launch. You'll be able to view refundable Credits, corresponding Points, and related exchange records there. 7. Direct Credit PurchaseAfter launch, direct purchase of MakerLab Credits will be supported.Direct purchase will be the primary way to acquire Credits, suited for users who use MakerLab features continuously and frequently.Points-to-Credit exchange will remain, but as a supplementary benefit for active community users. You can earn Points through MakerWorld community engagement and contributions, then exchange them for some Credits.Pricing, tiers, validity, and refund rules for direct purchases will be announced at launch. 8. FAQ1. Is this a price increase?Yes. For some generative use cases, post-adjustment Credit consumption will rise significantly, and the same Credit amount will support fewer generations. This isn't just a change in deduction timing. Previously, some generative features mainly charged a small amount of Credit at export, with generation itself essentially free; after launch, these features will charge upon generation, aligning consumption with real compute costs. Some features may consume 30+ Credits per generation. Exact costs will be clearly shown before you start.2. What happens to my existing Credits? After launch, the exchanged Credits can still be used for MakerLab features. However, due to consumption changes, the same Credit amount may support fewer generations. If these exchanged Credits remain unused, you can apply for a Points refund based on historical exchange records after launch.3. Will monthly free Credits continue? No, not in the current form. After launch, the fixed monthly free Credit issuance will be canceled and replaced by limited account-level feature trial uses. These uses don't refresh monthly and won't auto-recover next month once used up.The current monthly free Credits (expiring within the month) will be canceled at launch. Unused portions won't carry over and aren't eligible for Points refunds.4. Why keep limited 1:10 exchange before launch? To provide a transition window. This gives users with ongoing needs time before the official rule switch. So until launch, each account can still exchange at 1:10 with a limited quota. This avoids abrupt changes and lets users with genuine needs continue using MakerLab features.5. What rate applies to Points refunds?Refunds are based on your actual historical exchange records, not the new rate.If you exchanged Credits at a more favorable rate during an event, the system calculates Points for remaining Credits based on historical exchange batches and consumption status. Refundable amounts and calculations are subject to the refund portal display.6. How are failed or regenerated tasks billed? For system-caused failures, the corresponding Credits are refunded.Regeneration is billed as a new generation request. More billing details will be explained via in-product prompts at launch.7. What's the difference between direct purchase and Points exchange? Both yield MakerLab Credits usable for MakerLab features.Direct Purchase: Suited for continuous, high-frequency MakerLab use, and will be the primary way to acquire Credits going forward;Points Exchange: A benefit for active community users, suitable for supplementing Credits with MakerWorld Points. 9. FeedbackFor questions or suggestions on this Credit billing adjustment, please share via our ticket system. We'll keep collecting feedback and provide more rule details at launch, including Credit consumption standards, deduction rules, direct purchase pricing, validity periods, and the Points refund process.
