This project was born from a desire to create something I couldn't find online: a truly modular, professional-grade system for the Raspberry Pi 5. Here is how the design evolved:
🔹 1. The OPEN Version (The Essential)
The starting point, designed for those who prioritize total accessibility.
The Why: Ideal for testing, frequent shield swapping, or quick access to GPIO pins and the SD card.
Key Features: Minimalist structure, maximum natural airflow, and unbeatable print speed. This is the "workhorse" version for those who value practicality above all else.
🔹 2. The CLOSED Version with Bezel (Screwless Aesthetics)
Focusing on design, I wanted a clean, professional rack look that remains accessible to everyone.
The Advantage: A snap-fit system that requires zero screws or brass inserts.
Design: A front bezel hides raw edges, providing a smooth, minimalist finish. Perfect for an elegant desktop node without needing specialized tools for assembly.
🔹 3. The ACTIVE BACKPANEL Version (The Ultimate Engineering)
The pinnacle of the project, built for those who refuse to compromise on performance.
Performance: Native integration for a 40mm Noctua fan. This is the go-to solution for running a Pi 5 as a 24/7 server.
Durability: I introduced heat-set brass inserts here. It features true mechanical mounting—solid, durable, and built to last for years. It’s the only mount on the market combining active cooling with rack standards in this specific way.
🏗️ What’s Next? Moving Toward the 10" Rack
The journey doesn't end here. The work on these individual modules has laid the foundation for my next major milestone: the 10-inch Rack Chassis.
I am currently designing it: an ultra-rigid structure with a "C-profile" that can house any combination of these three versions.
What’s your philosophy? "Open" for total freedom, "Closed" for style, or "Active" for pure power?#raspberrypi5

It's all in the details: The Backpanel is ready! 🛠️
Spent my morning refining the rear section of my Raspberry Pi 5 rack mount. I’ve integrated pockets for M3 brass heat-set inserts to ensure the Noctua fan mounting is rock-solid and professional. No more screws stripping the plastic—just pure mechanical precision.#Comingsoon

I recently upgraded my setup with the new Raspberry Pi 5, but I couldn't find a rack mount that met my standards: it had to be sturdy, easy to print, and provide quick access to all ports without looking bulky. So, I opened Fusion360 and designed my own.
The Evolution
This isn't just a first draft. I went through a couple of prototypes to ensure the snap-fit was perfect and that the Pi 5 had enough breathing room for cooling. The integrated "Raspberry Pi 5" text on the front is designed to be printed face-down, giving it that professional, textured look if you use a PEI plate.
Key Features
Tailored for RPi 5: Precision fit for the latest board.
Front-Loading: Easy access to Ethernet and USB ports.
Print-Friendly: No supports needed if oriented correctly.
Compact & Stackable: Perfect for those building a Pi cluster or a clean homelab.
