The OPEN Version (The Essential) The starting point, designed for those who prioritize total accessibility. The Why: Ideal for testing, frequent shield swapping, or quick access to GPIO pins and the SD card. Key Features: Minimalist structure, maximum natural airflow, and unbeatable print speed. This is the "workhorse" version for those who value practicality above all else. 🔹 2. The CLOSED Version with Bezel (Screwless Aesthetics) Focusing on design, I wanted a clean, professional rack look that remains accessible to everyone. The Advantage: A snap-fit system that requires zero screws or brass inserts. Design: A front bezel hides raw edges, providing a smooth, minimalist finish. Perfect for an elegant desktop node without needing specialized tools for assembly. 🔹 3. The ACTIVE BACKPANEL Version (The Ultimate Engineering) The pinnacle of the project, built for those who refuse to compromise on performance. Performance: Native integration for a 40mm Noctua fan. This is the go-to solution for running a Pi 5 as a 24/7 server. Durability: I introduced heat-set brass inserts here. It features true mechanical mounting—solid, durable, and built to last for years. I recently upgraded my setup with the new Raspberry Pi 5, but I couldn't find a rack mount that met my standards: it had to be sturdy, easy to print, and provide quick access to all ports without looking bulky. So, I opened Fusion360 and designed my own. ​The Evolution This isn't just a first draft. I went through a couple of prototypes to ensure the snap-fit was perfect and that the Pi 5 had enough breathing room for cooling.
