When I started designing the Kitchen Sun, my original vision was actually pretty simple: I wanted a modular spice system. But I also gave myself a few strict design goals from the very beginning: It had to be printable even on the smallest Bambu Lab printer — the A1 Mini The full system should never exceed 50 cm in diameter It had to fit onto a standard kitchen cabinet door And most importantly: it should visually reflect the diversity of spices That’s where the color system came from 🌈 Over time, the idea evolved further. At some point I realized: Why stop at spices? That’s when the first additional modules appeared and the Kitchen Sun slowly became a modular kitchen system instead of just a spice rack. The design process itself honestly took a very long time. Finding the right tolerances, making the dovetail system work reliably, testing magnet fits, adjusting printability, redesigning modules over and over again… And of course: printing a full 50 cm version also takes quite some time 😄 At one point there was even a pretty major water damage situation in my apartment happening in parallel during development… …but that’s probably a story for another day 😂 I’m really happy with how the project turned out and I’m excited to continue expanding the system further.
