My then girlfriend, now wife, and I decided to exchange handmade gifts to make the day truly special. I’ll never forget the way her face lit up when she opened the silly, handwritten "love coupons" I had made out of scraps of paper. They were full of small, meaningful gestures like “a free backrub” or “one surprise date night.” Those little slips became a tradition that carried through the years. This year, I wanted to take that tradition to the next level. As a designer and maker, I decided to design and print a Spicy Coupon Box. Inspired by our shared love of fun and laughter, I sketched out the concept late one night, imagining a compact, elegant box housing the printed coupons. Each coupon is embossed with fun, romantic, and cheeky promises, from “A full-body massage” to “Breakfast in Bed…with benefits.” Of course, I included a blank coupon for people to create their own special requests tailored to their partner! On Valentine’s Day, when I present the box to her, the look of delight on her face will make me so happy. It wasn’t just about the box or the coupon, it was about creating a memory that will be connected back to our first Valentine’s Day and showing her how much our love has grown over the years. Not finding anything that fully captured the aesthetic I wanted, I decided to design and 3D print my own Lovecraftian dice box! This dice box is more than just a place to store your dice...it's a piece of storytelling. I embossed the R'lyehian script and an Elder Sign into the design to give it an authentic feel, in-line with Call of Cthulhu or any horror-themed game. There's also a tentacle-themed version without the embossing for those who want a more aquatic-themed look. With 3D printing, I was able to bring an idea from my imagination into reality, creating a custom gaming accessory that feels personal and unique.
