You may remember from math class that polyhedra are solid 3D shapes with flat polygonal faces, straight edges, and sharp corners or vertices. Low Poly Spheres are fun to make and display. You can print them in different colors and sizes, and use them as decorations, toys, or educational tools. Low Poly Spheres are a fun way to enjoy 3D printing and mathematics. They are simple, yet beautiful and fascinating. &nbsp;Truncated Cube - Fun FactsA truncated cube is a shape that is made by cutting off the corners of a cube. It has 14 faces: 6 octagons and 8 triangles. It also has 24 vertices and 36 edges. Here are some interesting things about truncated cubes:<ul><li>The truncated cube is one of the 13 Archimedean solids, which are convex polyhedra with regular faces and vertices. </li><li>The truncated cube is related to the cube and the octahedron, which are two of the five Platonic solids. The Platonic solids are the only convex polyhedra that have the same number of faces meeting at each vertex. </li><li>Each square face of a normal cube becomes an octagonal face in the truncated cube and each vertex of the cube becomes a triangular face. It can also be constructed by bitruncating an octahedron.</li><li>The truncated cube can be dissected into a central cube, with six square cupolae around each of the cube&#39;s faces, and 8 regular tetrahedra in the corners. This dissection can also be seen within the runcic cubic honeycomb, with cube, tetrahedron, and rhombicuboctahedron cells.</li><li><img src="https://makerworld.bblmw.com/makerworld/model/DSM00000000028725/design/c3f25f0f-85dd-4530-a584-24b3e8f81e3a.png"></li><li>This dissection process is neat because be used to create a <a target="_blank" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_toroid" rel="nofollow noopener">Stewart toroid</a> with all regular faces by removing two square cupolae and the central cube. Sylvester is ready to be 3D printed and join your family!<h3>Printing Instructions</h3>Sizes<ul><li>Large (recommended): This size will provide for easier assembly, particular with eyes and teeth.</li><li>Small: This is the original size I designed, and is the smallest I could make him and still have assembly by hand work. You'll want to have a little patience with the gluing of the teeth and eyes, and may want to use a wood glue instead of super glue to help gap-fill.</li></ul>Settings<ul><li>0.2 mm layer height should work fine. Ideally with a 0.4 or finer nozzle for details.</li><li>Supports: Orient the print as shown in the picture… the walrus flippers will need support as shown. I've had good results with tree supports, and excellent results with PETG/PLA dual material supports as well.</li></ul>Parts I provide Sylvester in split-out parts to make it easier to color his teeth and eyes differently from his body. There is also an all-in-one 3MF provided, however This can be a little bit of a pain to setup in the slicer. Pick one of the headings below and print the appropriate files:&nbsp;<ul><li>Ready-to-print: a pre-arranged 3MF in Bambu Slicer. Easiest option. Already setup and arranged for you with colors.</li><li>All-in-one: All the objects in one 3MF… you can color/arrange as you wish. Note that the eye color objects and the eyes will need to be carefully moved together.</li><li>Separates: Each part is printed separately<ol><li>3x pegs</li><li>1x tail part</li><li>1x main body part</li><li>1x each of: left tooth/right Tooth </li><li>1x each of: left eye/right eye<ul><li>note that the eyes are compound 2-part 3MFs to make coloring easy.</li></ul></li></ol></li></ul>&nbsp;<h3>Assembly Instructions</h3>A small amount of glue is required to complete the model. I recommend normal superglue, but anything should do. If you have super-glue accelerator, it can help. If printing the small model a small amount of glue that works better at gap-filling (wood glue, gorilla glue, etc) might be better. <ol><li>Tap the 3x tapered alignment pegs into the main walrus body. You may need to whack them a little with a blunt object to seat them fully. The alignment plugs should not fully bottom out, but will help you get a good alignment to minimize any gap.</li><li>Utilize glue to install the teeth and eyes.<ol><li>The eye and tooth sockets have tolerances built into them and are tapered to make assembly easy, but it's possible, depending on your printer tolerances, that you might need to slightly resize the teeth/eye parts to fit properly. Thankfully these are small and easy to re-print if needed. Yes, I know i named the parts “toof” .. it's because Sylvester is a silly walrus :).</li></ol></li></ol>
