I designed and tested a refill spool holder conceived to concretely improve spool management, especially for damaged or not perfectly standard ones.

Unlike traditional interlocking systems, this model uses a screw-locking mechanism that offers greater versatility: it allows accommodating spools of varying widths, including damaged ones or those needing re-spooling. This eliminates one of the main limitations of current refills, which often require new or perfectly compatible spools.

The design consists of two parts:

a main body that fully houses the spool along its entire thickness
a locking ring that screws on and locks with a snap system, ensuring security and stability

During tests on my Bambu Lab printer, the spool holder proved reliable in every situation:

it does not unscrew during use
it functions correctly both on the external holder and inside the AMS
it maintains good filament fluidity

From a practical standpoint, it is also efficient:

approximately 180 g of material
approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes of printing
lightweight but robust structure
