FIX WARPING
Guide to Stopping 3D Print WarpingWarping happens when the edges of your print—usually the corners—curl up and detach from the build plate. This occurs because plastic shrinks as it cools; if the layers cool unevenly, internal tension pulls the edges upward. Here is a guide to locking your prints down flat. 1. First Layer (The Foundation)If your first layer isn’t perfect, the rest of the print doesn't stand a chance.Level Your Bed: This is the #1 cause of warping. If the nozzle is too far away, the plastic won't "squished" enough. Use your printer’s auto-leveling sequence before every big print.Adjust Z-Offset: Even with a level bed, your nozzle might be starting too high. Lower your Z-offset in small increments (0.05mm) until the filament is slightly flattened against the bed. 2. Maximize Bed AdhesionSometimes gravity and heat aren't enough. You need to bond the plastic to the plate.Clean the Surface: Fingerprints are the enemy. Oil ruins adhesion. Wipe your build plate with Isopropyl Alcohol (90%+) before every print. For deep cleaning, use warm water and dish soap.Use Adhesives:Bambu Liquid Glue: Specifically designed for Bambu Lab plates to provide a thin, even interface layer.Glue Stick: A simple layer of purple glue stick is often enough for PLA and PETG.Specialized Adhesives: Products like Magigoo or Bed Weld are engineered to bond when hot and release when cold.Use a Brim: In your slicer (Bambu Studio), enable a "Brim." This prints a wide, single-layer border around the base, increasing surface area significantly. 3. Control the TemperatureWarping is caused by temperature shock. Keeping the environment stable reduces shrinking.Heated Bed: Ensure your bed is hot enough to keep the bottom layers expanded.PLA: 50°C – 60°CPETG: 70°C – 80°CABS/ASA: 90°C – 110°CBlock Drafts: A cool breeze from an AC vent can warp a print instantly.Use a Bambu Lab Enclosure: For high-warp materials like ABS, ASA, and Nylon, an enclosure is mandatory. It traps heat, keeping the ambient air warm so the part cools slowly. If using a Bambu Lab P1S or X1-Carbon, keep the door and top cover closed for ABS/ASA.If using a Bambu Lab P1P or A1, consider a Bambu Lab official fabric enclosure or a third-party tent to maintain heat. 4. Tune Slicer SettingsYour software can automate anti-warping strategies.Disable Fan for First Layers: Ensure your cooling fan is set to 0% for the initial 1-3 layers.Print Slower: Slow the first layer speed down (try 15-20 mm/s). This gives the plastic more time to bond.Reduce Infill: Dense infill pulls hard on the walls as it cools. Reducing infill to 10-15% lowers this internal tension.Troubleshooting Cheat Sheet MaterialPrimary CauseBest SolutionPLADirty bed or draftsWash bed with dish soap + use a BrimPETGCooling too fastLower fan speed (30-50%) + raise bed tempABS / ASAAmbient air too coldClose Bambu Lab door/lid + Turn fan OFFNylonMoisture / Poor gripDry filament + use Bambu Liquid Glue
