With this insert you can water your plants from the bottom. Each 5 gallon bucket is a little different. I've tried in a Costco and Home Depot 5 gallon bucket and it fit in both, albeit at a little different heights. I had to cut it in half to fit my printer and then just glued it together. The PVC pipe used is 1 inch. Happy planting
