Bruce Lee (November 27, 1940 – July 20, 1973), born Lee Jun-fan, was a Chinese-American actor, martial artist, martial arts instructor, and philosopher. He was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up in Hong Kong. He is widely considered one of the most influential martial artists of all time and a pop culture icon of the 20th century. He is credited with helping to change the way martial arts were perceived in the West, and his films helped to introduce Kung Fu to a global audience.
Lee was born in San Francisco, California, to parents who were Cantonese opera performers. He moved to Hong Kong with his family when he was three years old. He began studying martial arts at a young age, and eventually developed his own style, known as Jeet Kune Do. He returned to the United States in his late teens, and began to teach martial arts in Los Angeles.
