Gridfinity compatible modular shelving system

Two versions of the same system
GRIDFINITY
Profile "Storage Box Gridfinity"
2 storage boxes, standard (3U) and extra large (9U).

MOD
Profile "Storage Box Mod"
Not fully Gridfinity compatible version that implements a new customizable labeling system, usable only when needed.
3 sizes and 14 models of boxes (small, large, extra large)
2 storage boxes

Both versions are compatible with the modular shelving system for desktop and wall mounted containers

Labels for MOD version
The tray labels use a simple interlocking system to be inserted and removed and even when present, they allow the trays to be stacked; the text can be customized within Bambu Studio.

Storage boxes
Both versions (Gridfinity and non-Gridfinity) use M3 35mm screws (underhead measurement) and M3 bolts.

The basic component of the modular shelving is made up of a bottom, top, back, right and left sides joined by simple linear or dovetail joints.
Each basic component can hold two standard boxes or one XL.
Starting from this and using the joints that slide into the external rails, basic components can be placed side by side or stacked infinitely.

The shelving can be used on a desktop by utilizing riser accessories, or securely hung on a wall.

I recommend watching the YouTube video where I show how to assemble and use it

what did you use for pins to hold the hinges and latches on?

It’s in the description. 3x35mm (socket) head crews. I used these from Amazon. you will need 6 bolts and 6 nuts for each box. It’s a great design 👍 https://a.co/d/0h2XkHhP

Hello I printed the first box, but the containers I already have seem a little too short I loaded your containers and they are 30mm high, but according to the Gridfinity reference, 1 unit equals 7mm in height is it possible that you designed everything without respecting the standard Gridfinity heights and therefore now the boxes are not compatible with standard Gridfinity containers from other projects

Of course the three sizes are present in the STL files precisely because they are dedicated to this creation not to implement any "already" existing box

I understand, but why use a "half-open source" system The Gridfinity system also defines the height of the boxes it would have been enough to use three standard-compliant measurements and then it would have been truly Gridfinity this way it's an imitation of Gridfinity which is precisely the opposite of why Gridfinity was born and spread worldwide I have a collection of boxes which, for example, have dividers there are very small things or in small quantities for which I would avoid using the space of an entire box with your measurements I cannot do that I am forced to use only your 3 measurements and this goes completely against the Gridfinity philosophy it was only a matter of modeling the large boxes with a standard-compliant height Done this way, this project shouldn't be called Gridfinity in my opinion and it's a shame because I've already printed two storage boxes and they seem well-made

Hi, you're not entirely wrong, but I'll double-check, because the base I started from exactly matched the dimensions, including height EDIT: the Gridfinity standard dictates a unit height of 7mm and the most commonly used standard is 42x42x42 boxes, which I think you might have Even if I made it conform to multiples of 7 in height (a fairly easy modification), you probably still wouldn't be able to use your boxes, so the most appropriate solution is to remove compatibility completely

always precise and functional project, but don't you want to make a "medium" box?! Thank you Andrea for all your content!

Hi, if you mean the box for the smaller boxes, no, because it wouldn't be compatible with the wall mounts 🤷🏻‍♂️

I misspoke, the “medium” version referred to the inner boxes, so there would be two identical ones in the tall boxes

If only there was a bracket to mount this to the under side of a wall shelf. Very cool design though, thanks for sharing :)

The idea is not bad and not even complex to make

Im not super skilled with modeling but I was able to throw these together in Sketchup. I'll print them out and let you know how it works. Maybe you have a better idea?

The idea could be to use the external guides they would need to be tested to understand how much weight they can support
