As a child, I was captivated by the enigma of clockwork. It wasn't until secondary school that I grasped the principles of gravitational and elastic potential energy, though the regularity of their release remained a mystery. Understanding the underlying mechanism of a clock only came with learning about the cyclical motion of a pendulum. This week, on a whim, I embarked on recreating a pendulum clock mechanism. After several setbacks, I finally managed to assemble a functional, albeit simple, pendulum clock.

Assembly Instructions:

Assembly Process:

Initial Preparations: A 25cm length of thin string, 5-10 one-yuan coins, a bottle of lubricant
Connect the components with the thin string as shown, ensuring the string measures 18cm when taut
Install the pendulum as illustrated
Install the casing as shown
Pawl installation
Insert the central shaft and spacer
Install the structure and spacer as shown
Escapement wheel installation
Install as shown
Install as shown
Insert the structure into the casing
Install the hands and rear knob, finally securing the outer ring

Usage Instructions: Secure the pendulum to one side, rotate the knob clockwise until the weight reaches its highest point, and then release the pendulum

(Should the mechanism function improperly, applying a drop of lubricant to the moving parts will resolve the issue)
